REVIEW:
I have a great love affair with BDSM books and even coming into a story well within a series, means nothing to me. I have to get my read on and see what occurs.
This is the story of Danny and Gary. These two guys are just so darn cute and so very sweet together. I really enjoyed the story and seeing these two finally get their acts together.
Danny is this really young guy whose life hasn’t been the easiest. His father was an verbally abusive jerk and threw Danny out when he was 18 for being gay. Danny lived rough for a couple of months before his older brother, Caden found him and took him in. Caden got Danny the job as a house submissive at Indiscreet where he finds friends and Gary. Danny has low self-esteem and insecurity issues that stem from dealing with his jerk of a father. Danny is so sweet and kind and yet, he’s so very strong. The strength to know who he is and what he wants. I really liked Danny, however, I felt that he was almost written as a female character. However, I think that it’s just because he’s really young and that he’s dealing with those earlier mentioned issues that he’d outgrow that.
Gary…now I have to say that I liked Gary. I liked that this former pro baseball player who was trying so hard not to fall for anyone until he got his life together and yet, fell for sweet Danny anyway. I really liked that he put so much thought into past his baseball career. Getting a double Masters and almost has an PhD. Gary’s not a dumb man. I like that once Gary has made up his mind and has plotted a course of action…he’s on it. I liked seeing Gary’s growth into the Dom that Danny needed. Gary is really a great guy. I liked that he wanted Danny so much that he finally found the strength of will to make the moves that he knew he needed to take in order to get his life where he wanted it.
I really loved the secondary characters in this book. Jim and Brian…these guys are such great friends to Danny. They help guide Danny in the world of being a contracted sub. I love how these two guys befriended Danny and showed him just how much they like him. Bear and Reed were really good to Gary. They proved that they wanted nothing but the best for both of them and would do anything to keep Danny safe. Caden…what an AMAZING big brother to Danny. I really liked how he cared for his brother and how protective he was when he realized that Danny was in a committed relationship to Gary.
There was a fair amount of sex in this book and I will say that it was tastefully done. The scenes were never gratuitous. They were there to show the growing relationship between Danny and Gary. The sex scenes weren’t very long and not really that explicit.
This book had a bit of homophobic language, but it was mainly from the bad guy. He was just really using it to be hateful because his house of cards was falling. He was such jerk and just plain nasty. He had his just desserts coming and he DEFINITELY had it coming.
The story was really well-written and it flowed smoothly. Even having not read the prior books, this book was a great standalone story. This was a wonderful quick read and I enjoyed reading it. I have to say that now, I really want to go back and read the other books and read their stories. I’d really like to read Caden’s story and I really liked him.
