To Derek’s surprise, Marshall is as interested as he is, and they make a date. But a failure to communicate leads to a misunderstanding. The party they attend is not what Derek expected—at all—but Marshall, ever the gentleman, makes sure Derek feels comfortable. As they get to know each other, they see how much they have in common. Derek begins to heal and soon realizes he might thrive in this new chapter of his life—and it just might be with Marshall by his side.
Review:
This is a short story that brings together some of BG Thomas’s most memorable characters in support of new ones.
Derek is a newly-divorced man who is trying to figure out where his life is going next. He walks into his favorite coffee shop and is lucky enough to meet a new friend who convinces him to come to a party she’s throwing and it’s there that he meets Marshall.
Marshall is definitely a man who knows what he wants and he wants Derek from the moment he sees him.
This is a nice little story that lets us catch up with some old friends while meeting new ones. I couldn’t help but be charmed by Derek and his uncertainty and the kindness shown to him by Marshall and his other friends is something that a lot of people could use around them in that kind of a situation.
This story is short and sweet, not really getting into too much depth with anything, just taking us on a happy little journey with Derek into discovering who he really is and as he comes to understand that sometimes the journey is just as important as the destination.
This story dragged a little for me but I think if I was familiar with all the characters that parade through the story, I’d probably have been a little more excited about it.
It’s good though, well written with interesting characters that make you want to know them better. And while I would have like to have gotten to know Derek and Marshall a little better, the story was complete and didn’t leave me with that sense of frustration when something that could have been amazing is cut short.
A quick smile of a story with a lot of humor and very little angst.
