TITLE: Tame a Wild Human
AUTHOR: Kari Gregg
PUBLISHER: Riptide Publishing
LENGTH: 80 pages
BLURB:
Drugged, bound, and left as bait on the cusp of the lunar cycle, Wyatt Redding is faced with a terrifying set of no-win scenarios. Best case: he survives the coming days as a werewolf pack’s plaything and returns to the city as a second-class citizen with the mark—and protection—of the pack. Worst case: the wolves sate their lusts with Wyatt’s body, then send him home without their protection, condemning him to live out the rest of his short life as a slave to the worst of humanity’s scorn and abuse.
Wyatt’s only chance is to swallow every ounce of pride, bury his fear, and meekly comply with every wicked desire and carnal demand the wolf pack makes of him. He expects three days of sex and humiliation. What he doesn’t expect is to start enjoying it. Or to grow attached to his captor and pack Alpha, Cole.
As the lunar cycle ends, Wyatt begins to realize that the only thing to fear more than being sent home without the pack’s protection is being sent home at all.
REVIEW:
SPOILER ALERT! I talk more about the plot than I usually in this review…. If you don’t want to see it stop here!
This is a hard book for me to review…. I didn’t care for it, but I appreciate the writing. I’ve read several books by Kari Gregg before and liked them very much, including her werewolf books. But this one was not my cup of tea at all! I did read the blurb, but didn’t realize there would be as little plot as there was and how much rape it included.
Wyatt is a human, an attorney living in a human city. He is kidnapped, drugged, tied up, and dumped in the territory of a werewolf pack on the first night of the three day full moon fuck fest. He’s found by a pack of werewolves, raped repeatedly and mates with the alph to save his life. I didn’t get the sense that Wyatt liked or cared for Cole, and the same from Cole. He just wanted a willing fuck toy, and Wyatt wanted to not get hurt and not die. That’s pretty much it! It’s nasty and icky, and I really didn’t get it. The werewolves talk about how inhumane the humans are, yet they gang rape humans. Wyatt isn’t gay, this is not a romance, and it all takes place in the woods in a werewolf camp. There’s not enough world building to really get a sense of what’s happening, other than this being a fucked up world. There wasn’t much of a resolution, it just sort of ended. There wasn’t much history, and it’s a really short book, so I didn’t get a chance to like any of the characters. It appears to be a dark and awful world, someplace I DON’T want to know more about. I don’t understand the title actually, Wyatt wasn’t a wild human, and he didn’t get tamed. Just raped!
I’m sorry I didn’t like it, it wasn’t what I expected. I’m sure some people will like it, there is nothing wrong with books like this one, and the writing is good, it just isn’t something I care for personally. I can appreciate a dark story, and I can handle some non-con in books, off page rape, or even on page rape not fully described, and some rough sex, but it has to be part of an overall plot that I like. Or make sense to the story or characters somehow. There has to be a rescue, a connection, some emotions, some healing, and some feelings coming out of the bad shit, some reason for it. I just didn’t get that here. It was just rape, gang rape at that, and there just wasn’t enough good stuff to outweigh the bad stuff. I hate to give books low ratings because I didn’t like the subject matter, but I don’t know what to do with this one….. if there had been more to it maybe I could have gotten past the icky bits and worked up to liking it, but I didn’t.
