TITLE: One Perfect Wish
AUTHOR: L.M. Brown
PUBLISHER: Totally Bound Publishing
LENGTH: 61 pages
BLURB:
Playing the part of another man’s husband to fulfil a wish is easy, but what happens at midnight when the magical day is over?
Scott Baxter is a workaholic with no time for love, until a djinn pulls him out of his life and deposits him into the bed of Cameron Kirk. Cut off from his life, Scott isn’t happy about the idea of being forced to help the djinn grant an unspecified wish, but he soon finds he has no real choice in the matter. The djinn, who has turned his life upside down, has powers that prevent Scott from leaving and ensure he does nothing to ruin Cameron’s day with his ‘husband’.
Reluctant at first, Scott finds that as the day progresses he starts to enjoy playing the role of Cameron’s husband. He connects with his unexpected lover in a way he never has with other men.
Scott searches for clues to help him track down Cameron after the day is over and he returns to his own life. He doesn’t want the day to end, but the wish is out of his control and when the magic is finished his time with Cameron may be over too.
REVIEW:
We are always told to be careful what you wish for, but what the hell are you supposed to do when you are not the one doing the wishing?
Scott Baxter’s life is…busy. He’s a workaholic, with little time for anything that isn’t being handed down to him from his boss. Even sleep. Then one day a djinn grants a wish for a perfect day with the man he loves. Problem is, Scott’s not the one doing the wishing so he has no clue what is going on when he wakes up in bed with a man claiming to be his husband. And when he finds out, well let’s just say he’s all ready to hop the train back to realityland. Except the djinn isn’t going to let him, so he’s going to have to live out the day as the perfect husband to a man he has never met, and who seems to know everything about him. No problem at all.
Until he falls in love…and the 24 hours are up.
My biggest regret about this book? Mostly that it wasn’t a full length novel. Because I freakin loved it!
I picked this book up to review on a whim, hoping to find some interesting short stories to pad out my January schedule, but I was not expecting to find such a great story in these short 60 pages. You’ve got a wish-granting djinn (who apparently moonlights as a cupid or something), forced marriage (if only for a short time), soul mates separated by cosmic forces (and maybe a bit more), and one hell of twist that had me ready to throw my kindle against the wall and go to the corner to cry (don’t worry, it gets better (the story, not my kindle (my kindle’s fine, I would never hurt my precious))). Add all that up and you got one hell of a story.
That was way to0 freakin short! I didn’t want it to stop, at all.
All in all, a great way to start off the New Year (’cause heaven only knows my resolutions were shot pretty much from the get-go (tell me, what sane person gets up at 7am to go jogging in 30 degree weather? No sane person, that’s right!)).
