A warm welcome to authors Lisa Henry & J.A Rock who stop by here @ Love Bytes on their Riptide blog tour to talk about their new release
The Two Gentlemen of Altona.
Welcome Lisa & J.A !
Hi! We’re Lisa Henry and J.A. Rock, the authors of THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF ALTONA. We’re touring the web taking about our influences, our processes, anything we can think about actually, and even giving you guys a sneak peak or two! And what would a blog tour be without a contest? Check out the details at the bottom of the post to see what you can win!
In THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF ALTONA, FBI Agent Mac tries to interview the world’s most irritating witness, Henry, to find out what he saw the night a man was killed. Henry would rather talk about smoothies. In the book, we don’t actually go into what was said in the interview, but it probably went something like this:
The following is taken from a transcript of an interview with Special Agent RYAN MCGUINNESS, Indianapolis Field Office, and witness HENRY PAGE.
RM: What time did you go back downstairs?
HP: I don’t actually know. I didn’t look at the time. I’d been trying to fall asleep for a while, but it turned out I really, really wanted a smoothie.
RM: A smoothie?
HP: Oh god, there is nothing like a midnight smoothie. That’s a figure of speech, because I don’t know if it was midnight or not.
RM: I don’t think that really is a figure of speech.
HP: Midnight smoothie. It should be. Midnight smoooothie. Not only a figure of speech, but a widespread cultural movement. I think everyone would be happier if we all had midnight smoothies. There would be less anger in the world. Smoothies are so nice, am I right? And so easy. All you need is a banana, a handful of strawberries, some frozen yoghurt, or some ice-cream if you’re not counting caleries, and, oh wow. Just beautiful. Really. I could make you one.
RM: I don’t want a smoothie.
HP: You’re probably saying that because you’ve never had a nice one. Gloria has the most awesome smoothie maker. I mean, it was just like the best thing. I swear it was like commercial grade or something. You know how some just won’t do the ice right? Gloria’s was great.
RM: Okay, so you went down to the kitchen and—
HP: Ooh! It also made slushies. So, cider. You’ll thank me for this tip. Strawberry and lime cider. Sounds terrible, but oh my gosh, it’s so nice. An icy cider slushie is the best thing. I want to say the best thing on a hot day, but I’d drink those things in the height of winter, I swear to god, they’re so delicious.
RM: So you went down to the kitchen and—
HP: How much do you think a smoothie maker like that would set you back? Can we Google it?
RM: Henry, I need to know what happened what you saw when you went to the kitchen.
HP: I’ll tell you what didn’t happen. I didn’t get my smoothie.
RM: Oh for f—
(Knocking on door.
Interview terminated by arrival of Special Agent Calvin Hooper, and subsequent evacuation of the field office.)
About THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF ALTONA:
Mischief, thou art afoot.
Special Agent Ryan “Mac” McGuinness is having a rough week. Not only is he on a new diet, but he’s also been tasked with keeping Henry Page—the world’s most irritating witness—alive. Which is tough when Mac’s a breath away from killing the Shakespeare-quoting, ethically-challenged, egg-obsessed Henry himself. Unless killing isn’t really what Mac wants to do to him.
Con man Henry Page prefers to keep his distance from the law . . . though he wouldn’t mind getting a little closer to uptight, handsome Agent McGuinness. As the sole witness to a mob hit, Henry’s a valuable asset to the FBI. But he’s got his own agenda, and it doesn’t involve testifying.
When evidence surfaces of a mole in the FBI office, Mac and Henry are forced to go into hiding. Holed up in a fishing cabin, they’re surprised to discover that their feelings run more than skin deep. But as the mob closes in, Henry has to make his escape. And Mac has to decide how far he’s willing to go to keep Henry by his side.
THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF ALTONA is the first in our PLAYING THE FOOL trilogy. Book 2, THE MERCHANT OF DEATH, will be available on February 2. Book 3, TEMPEST, will be released March 9.
You can preorder the series, and check out excerpts, at Riptide.

We’re also giving away a $20 Riptide gift voucher, and the contents of Henry Page’s bag during his arrest in THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF ALTONA: that’s some Shakespeare and a bunch of Henry’s favorite candy!

I really think I love Henry. You’ve got to admire a man who can do that kind of damage to someone’s calm. It’s a gift.
