AUTHOR: Felicitas Ivey

LENGTH: 45 pages

BLURB:

Ex-Pat American Jacob Moore is looking forward to hosting his traditional Christmas Eve party with his partner, Errol. They love the quiet night of friends and food at their house in London, and the break before dealing with family, presents, and Boxing Day. The quiet is shattered when Jacob’s younger half-sister, Pru, shows up on his doorstep, running away from home for a very good reason. Jacob has stayed in touch with her over the years, even though he’s estranged from their father. But nothing prepared him for this. Now he has to decide what to do with this unexpected package from Father Christmas.

REVIEW:

This is a short and sweet novelette, a quick read for a busy holiday season though it may make your busy holidays seem docile compared to what Jacob and his partner Errol face. It simply isn’t enough that Errol likes an over the top Christmas with all the bells and whistles but he drags everyone else into his insanity.

Too bad that’s not all they have to deal with. A very unexpected visitor turns up on their doorstep in the form of Jacobs half-sister whom he barely knows due to a habit his father has of marrying and divorcing quicker than Jacob can remember who the flavor of the month is. The poor girl arrives on the evening of the Christmas party and Jacob and Errol find out that poor Pru has basically been abandoned. What do they do about all that? Well, thankfully the right thing,  which not only Pru appreciates but which also demonstrates what Christmas is all about. Family! It is a good short read and I recommend it highly.
