BLURB:
Nick, a bartender, and Ben, a hotel reviewer, have been together two years. Though he hates the paperwork involved, Nick agrees to accompany Ben to a beautiful lodge on the Mozambican side of Lake Malawi. Over a bottle of wine, they trade Christmas horror stories from their pasts. But memories of hurt and loss only serve to remind them how lucky they are to have found each other. It might be time to try out the showerhead built into the tree outside….
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2014 Advent Calendar package “Celebrate!”.
REVIEW:
A very short short-story by Jane Darius, who describes herself as a writer and dreamer, who wants to travel the world. And that experience she pours into this novel. She takes the main characters on a trip for Christmas to the Caribbean. Both Nick and Ben have their hesitations about spending Christmas there. Ben does, because he’ll spend most of his time working, as a hotel reviewer. Nick is hesitant, because Christmas just isn’t his thing. Due to past experiences Nick knows Christmas always ends in disaster. But thanks to the idyllic island and the mesmerizing description Darius presents us with, we know this Christmas is going to be special. And with the backdrop of all that luxury, Nick and Ben get together and have an amazing shower. This book does exactly what I’d want from a advent short story. It made me smile and feel all tingly inside. Yes, it was short, but it was most definitely worth the read.
