BLURB:
You can’t outrun the past, especially when it comes back to get you.
Nolan has been in the scientists hands for months. He’s finally rescued, but it’s only to be abandoned in a snowy Whitedell, alone. Luckily for him he’s a cat shifter, and who wouldn’t want to adopt a cute kitty like him? That’s how he ends up in the middle of a house full of felines so much bigger than him, who could eat him for breakfast. They don’t, but a new problem arises. Nolan meets his mate, a mate he doesn’t want.
Casey ran from his birth pride years ago and spent most of his life alone in his cheetah form. After being rescued by Dominic, the pride’s Alpha, he is happy to find his mate, even if it seems Nolan doesn’t want him. Just as they start solving their problems, someone from Casey’s past comes back, someone who will do anything to have him back, even hurting Casey, or worse, Nolan.
Will Nolan and Casey be able to save their budding relationship from Casey’s past, or will they be separated forever?
REVIEW:
Nolan was truly grateful to the guard who rescued him from the compound where he was being held and studied (read – tortured). He knew that he would never have gotten out alive so he feels a little bad about complaining, even if it’s only to himself. But honestly, could the man not have at least left him some clothes to wear? Now he’s stuck in his cat form, forced to catch mice to eat because he can’t exactly shift into a man and stroll naked through the frozen streets of Whitedell. When he’s trapped in an alley by a woman who will not give up her attempts to rescue the “stray cat” he gives in and decides ending up with a crazy cat-lady will at least see him warm and fed. However it’s not just any house full of cats the lady brings him to, but the mansion that houses the whole Whitedell Pride. Finding himself surrounded by lions and tigers and cheetahs, Nolan figures he’s about to become a big cat’s lunch but the cheetah who tracks him down claims him as a mate rather than a meal. And Nolan thought he had problems before!
This is the first book in the series to match two feline shifters as mates but while Casey is a cheetah, Nolan is a cute little domestic kitty. So you would think it would make it easier for Casey to claim his mate, right? If Nolan knows they’re destined to be together? Well that wouldn’t make for a very interesting story, so of course it’s not that simple and I kind of love the reason why. Nolan doesn’t like sex. He’s tried it, he wasn’t impressed, so the last thing he wants to do is tie himself to a mate who will want to, well, mate all the time.
While this third story brought another couple together it didn’t do much to move the series along. Which is fine. Series always tend to have those random books that toss in a couple that you weren’t expecting because there is already a backlog of other characters waiting their turn. There’s nothing wrong with that but I have to confess that it always bugs me a bit when that happens. There are awesome couples or single characters just ready to go so why do I have to wait? But that’s just my personal whining and shouldn’t be seen as a criticism. However, I’m unfortunately reaching the point where I’m starting to really dislike Bryce. Anyone who has read either of the first two books knows who I’m talking about. If that guy doesn’t sort his shit out soon I’m going to have to start a petition to ask the author to lose him at sea or something.
I have absolutely no idea whose story is coming next but I know I’m going to be impatient to read it. This series definitely has me hooked.
