In a life full of yes, no is the sexiest word he’s ever heard.
David Beauchamp might as well be in jail. After one too many misunderstandings with the law, he’s chained to the city by the GPS and alcohol sensor strapped to his ankle. Awaiting trial, cut off from usual forms of entertainment, he goes looking for a nameless sexual encounter and winds up with almost more than he can handle.
Reality comes crashing back the next day with a summons for another random drug test, and the man behind the badge turns out to be the very man who took him for one hell of a ride.
Probation Officer Tai Fonoti is used to handling other people’s problems, but he’s horrified when one of the clients his boss dumps on him is the sweet piece of ass he screwed the night before. It makes getting a urine sample a pretty loaded situation.
That single encounter left Beach craving Tai’s unique brand of control and discipline. But while Tai relishes laying down the law in the bedroom, the letter of the law stands between them and kinkily ever after.
Warning: This book is kinky. I mean kinky. With lots of sex. It describes a fully consensual, intense D/s relationship which changes a character’s life. It includes impact play and bondage along the way to a very happily ever after.
REVIEW:
Yes! Oh what a great book….
Beach (David) is a pain in the ass. Self-centered, rich, bored, unfocused, slutty, etc. Underneath that he seems to be a decent guy, but it’s hard to get to that center core. He has some family issues, his dad did a naughty thing when Beach was ten and had to leave the country. Beach was too young to know what was going on, and his dad has manipulated him fairly well for not having seen him in a very long time. There is a business, an obnoxious uncle who used to beat Beach with a switch, and an absent mother. It’s really no surprise that he’s all over the place. No one has ever taken the time to know him, other than his best friend Gavin, who doesn’t seem to really “get” Beach either. So Beach has made some dumb-ass decisions (We see that first hand in the third book I think it was…) and is paying the price. He’s been injured, was in a coma, and has a barely healed broken leg. He’s in trouble with the law, is wearing an alcohol monitor with a GPS tracking device, and has a curfew. Plus he is subject to random drug checks, home visits, and has to check in with his Parole Officer and pee in a cup regularly. He’s basically a mess. The only thing left to him is sex and he has to be careful about where he goes to get that. One evening, bored, he heads to a bar to get laid. He does, somewhat successfully and goes home. The next morning is his meeting with his Parole Officer, he heads in only to discover he has a new PO, the man who fucked him the night before.
Toluaotia “Tai” Fonoti is a big badass man that doesn’t take any crap in his personal life as a Dominant, or his working life as a Parole Officer. He is tall, big, broad, dark, tattooed and beautiful. He’s a Dominant but not a sadist, using a bit of pain here and there if his submissive needs it, but it really isn’t his main focus. He’s more in to the D/s than the pain side of BDSM. He has a good family life, his dad is long gone but he’s close to his mom and he has a child of the heart that he sees regularly along with her mother. The new boyfriend and actual father isn’t as excited to have Tai is Sammie’s life, but Tai doesn’t take any crap from him either. So it seems to work. He had a boyfriend, but he got a big dog, and doesn’t have the boyfriend anymore. I think it was a fair trade! His girl is Jezebel, a rescued Rottweiler, who has some issues. Actually not anymore, thanks to Tai, but she’s delicate. He uses his dominance in an appropriate way with her as well as on his sexual partners, and she is a fantastic partner for him. We don’t get to see him prior to his involvement with Beach, so I can’t say whether he’s happy or not. He seems like he’s missing something, I think he needs a new lover, not just a one off here and there. He’s in a bar one night, sees a man, picks up on the hints but being the Dom he is, he makes the move. Stalking his prey to the bathroom and having his wicked way with him. End of story. But. The next morning at work, he’s given a bunch of new cases from another officer that got himself in trouble, and in walks his fuck buddy from the night before.
This is a nice long book, coming in at 366 pages. We get plenty of time to have a lovely slow developing relationship between Tai and Beach/David. He’s Beach to the outside world, but becomes David when he’s with Tai. Not in some weird split personality way, there is the outward appearance he’s always portrayed, the obnoxious party boy known as Beach, but as he spends time with Tai and opens up to his submission, David comes out more and more. He’s still a brat, but he’s a sweet, needy brat, who responds so well to Tai’s brand of attention. But I’m getting ahead of myself. So these two meet, fuck, and go away. They both think that will be all there is to it until they see each other in a professional situation. Even then, nothing can happen. Tai is Beach’s PO, it would be soooo inappropriate to have a relationship. Not going to happen. But of course it does. Beach pushes and pushes, Tai finally dumps his file on to another PO’s desk and in we go. It’s slow and wonderful.
I love me some BDSM books, and this is a good one. I really liked the fact that David knows nothing about the lifestyle, and has no clue that he’s submissive. Watching him develop and accept his submission was fantastic. He fights it, insults Tai, runs, they are together, they are apart, each says stupid stuff, it was awesome. Up and down and around they go. Will they won’t they. I assumed they would since it is a romance novel, but you are never really sure with these two. Both are assholes to the other, then we have Gavin and Jamie popping in and out to further mess things up. Plus this whole nasty business with David’s piece of shit dad. Oh, and a bit of drama with Sammie, Tai’s child of his heart. It’s a wonderful, deep story. With some amazing sex. Don’t forget the sex…. Tai and David are incredibly hot together, with or without the D/s part. Which I don’t want to be without! It was perfect. A bit of punishment pain, no humiliation, a little bondage, but lots of dominance, that David needs in such a bad way. Just perfect. I loved every bit of it.
KA Mitchell isn’t a prolific writer, maybe two books a year, but she is so damn good it’s fine. I’ll take quality over quantity any day. Her writing is fantastic, her characters have some real meat to them. I don’t always like them, these two I did, but I’m not fond of Gavin and Jamie. There are a handful of other men from other books that come and go, I wish I remembered them better. So great writing, great characters, interesting and well written plots, and fantastic sex. Lots of fantastic sex. Romance, not just sex, so you get emotion with the sex, making it even better. Sometime as the beginning the emotion isn’t love, but it always is by the end of the book.
I love her books every time, if I had the time I’d go read them all over again. I had a personal issue come up while I was reading this book, and it was just what I needed to distract myself. An involved story with excellent characters and hot sex. Exactly what I needed.
