REVIEW: This is book #4 in what I was told was another fantastic series by the wonderful writing duo A.J. Llewellyn and D.J. Manly. I must admit that this is the first book that I’ve read with this series and I was a bit lost as to what was going on. The confusion didn’t last long as I was swept up in the storyline and characters. The book was extremely well written, but then again, I’ve read many others of these authors’ titles so that was not a surprise. The book began with the murder of the loved and respected Sheriff DePriest who was murdered while trying to uncover a child sex ring. His widow came to Jubilee and Kieran to finish the investigation her husband started. As with all of Llewellyn and Manly collaborations, the plot and storyline would be simple enough and just when you think you know how it will turn out, they take you in another direction. This is what I most enjoy about these authors: they keep you on your toes; your attention is grabbed from the first word to the very last. There are quite a few plot twists and turns that you won’t expect. The was hard to read as it deals with the subject of child sex trade and pedophilia, but also quite moving as you see that Jubilee has decided to come out and be with Kieran in the open; his coming out, if you will. Yes, the action and adventure aspect of the story can be a bit over the top at times, but that in an odd way, is what made the story all the more exciting for me. I really wish I would have read the books in order; as I understand this is book #4 of 13. The supporting/surrounding characters back stories would have come in handy while reading their interaction with the two main characters. There was a bit of sadness when I realized the men were leaving Lone Trail but you were left feeling that these men were moving forward to something bigger and better. I truly liked everything about this book. Llewellyn and Manly always manage to successfully combine perfect balance between mystery and suspense, action and adventure, romance and sizzling sex. I truly enjoyed these characters and my interest in the surrounding/supporting characters has definitely been piqued. I will definitely go back and read the rest of the books in this series.
