TITLE: All’s Fair in Mate Bonds and Publishing
AUTHOR: Alana Ankh
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 112 pages
BLURB:
For Killian Marsden, werewolf romance is overrated. After all, he should know, since he’s a half-werewolf and an editor for a romance-publishing house. He’s tired of reading mate bond fairytales, because real life doesn’t work that way. In the real world, Alphas abandon their half-breed children. Not that Killian’s jaded or anything. Simply realistic. So when werewolf Alpha Brett comes knocking, demanding explanations on a rejected manuscript, Killian reels away, or at least tries to.
Brett is a walking, talking Alpha cliché: big, possessive, and growly. His last name is Wolfe, for crying out loud. But Brett is also trustworthy, devoted to his pack, and a little silly when in love. Soon, Killian discovers that maybe, just maybe, he might love Brett in return.
Unfortunately, Killian is not the only one who wants to claim Brett. He will have to set aside his beliefs about mate bonds and deadbeats if he wants his own happily ever after werewolf romance.
REVIEW:
I would be quite remiss if I didn’t admit to initially picking up this book because of the title. I just love this title. It’s cute, funny, and very clever. And the same can be said about this book. I truly enjoyed it. Alana Ankh is a new author to me but I am exceedingly happy that I read this story.
Killian is the quintessential bitter, snarky “hybrid” or half-breed wolf shifter. He shuns the paranormal world. Stays far away from it and prefers all preternatural entities to stay far away from him. Ironically, he’s also an editor for a publishing company that publishes paranormal romance. This is where he comes into contact with, Brett, big time Alpha of his pack. Brett is coming to confront Killian of a wrong he was led to believe befell his spurned fiancé.
Upon their first meeting in Killian’s office it becomes abundantly apparent that they are mates. It’s so much fun watching Brett try to win Killian over. Killian battles with his prejudice over werewolves and not understanding how Brett was straight when they first met, and then boom believes their mates. You can tell this was not something he expected for his future but watching him give in was electric. I loved it!!
These two are seriously hot together. This author can write man-love like nobody’s business. Whew. I think I may have said, “DAMN” a few times while reading this book.
Another thing I really appreciated is that Brett did not hesitate when he realized his mate was male. He was 100% in from the get go. I loved how sure of himself he was.
There’s lots of family drama, some betrayals that are heartbreaking, a few twists that were unexpected but interesting enough to keep you turning the pages. I loved this author’s style of writing. She writes with a lot of humor and I love and appreciate that.
This story was super sexy, fun, witty and has totally hooked me on this author and hopefully more books in this series. This is a great read and is going in my re-read pile!!!
