LENGTH: 25 pages

BLURB:

Ilya, the youngest son of a Moscow oligarch, is so deep in the closet he’d find Narnia if that weren’t a decadent Western story. On Christmas Eve, his brothers lure him into the forest, intending to murder him and erase the shame he inflicts on their family by existing. However, the attempt is interrupted by Volyk, a wolf who carries the blood of the ancient oboroten’ —shapeshifters. Ilya never imagined a Christmas gift like the handsome wolf, but accepting what Volyk offers will have consequences that change both of their lives forever.

REVIEW:

This is a sweet and tender tale that incorporates hate, love, sacrifice, and triumph in a very small, prettily-packaged parcel.

It isn’t safe to be gay where Ilya lives, despite the wealth of his father, and he tries to keep himself very much to himself. Unfortunately where Ilya is as beautiful of nature as he is on the outside, his brothers hide souls filled with hatred and bigotry.

When Volyk finds Ilya, more dead than alive, and rescues him, he sets in motion a series of events that change them both.

I enjoyed learning a little of this particular kind of shape-shifter and their magick, and Ilya and Volyk make a beautiful couple. However, with such a short piece, we can’t really get to know much of the characters themselves, just this little snapshot.

A nice, sweet, short, perfect for Christmas read, with a little paranormal twist.

  1. Thanks for the review. Oh how I wish I could afford to just buy all of them. Right now I’m following the reviews and making a list. 🙂

  2. I loved this one! I needed a light, sweet read and although the beginning was violent, the ending was sweet. Perfect fairytale, complete with evil bad guys and a fabled hero.

Please take a minute to leave a comment it is so appreciated !
