TITLE: Snow and Moose and Finnish Secrets
SERIES: Dreamspinner Advent Calendar 2014 Celebrate
AUTHOR: Reni Kieffer
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 25 Pages
BLURB:
When Jake takes his boyfriend Ian home to celebrate Christmas with his parents in the Finnish woods, Ian, a skeptic by nature who has to deny his preference for guys in front of his own family, is not only worried about the reaction of Jake’s family, but also about the feast itself—and the cold. However, within minutes, Jake’s parents make Ian feel warm, welcome, and at home, and begin to introduce him to their Christmas traditions.
The visit goes smoothly until Jake’s ex-girlfriend barges in and drops a bomb that shatters their peace and harmony—a tiny detail Jake failed to mention to his boyfriend. Angry and hurt, Ian struggles to let go of the past and focus on the blessings surrounding him.
REVIEW:
Jake and Ian are going home to Jake’s parents house in the mountains of Finland for their first family Christmas. All seems well, Ian teasing Jake with animals in the barn and how cold it is, until someone from Jake’s past knocks on the door and almost ruins everything.
From the moment you start the book you can already feel the love between the two main characters, Jake and Ian, by the way they interact with each other. With the story only being 25 pages long it is definitely a short story, that you would wish was a little more longer, to get more story about how Ian and Jake met. Jake’s parents seem loving and excepting of their son’s romance and very comfortable around Ian, and the same goes for Ian being around Jake’s parents. When the bomb drops with the knock on the door I would have liked more to have happened, and for, well just more. Reni Kieffer, the author, has written a wonderfully cute short story that she has left you wanting more. If you have 20-30 minutes on your hands, I would recommend picking this little story up.
