REVIEW:
AHH!!! How have I not read these books before?? Sometimes I read deep, dark, dramatic, angsty stories, and I think those are my favorite ones. I like a story that affects me emotionally, that makes me cry, that is long and involved. But when I read too many of those I get depressed! And overwhelmed. Then I read lighter stories and I think those are the best thing ever! This is a light and fluffy story, and I swear that is NOT an insult! I love me some light and fluffy stories! (And some deep dark ones too!)
Jackie Nacht is a new-to-me author, I’ve followed her on Facebook for some time but I haven’t read any of her books. I saw her do a reading from the third book in this series at GRL, that was so funny and sweet, that I pulled up my phone and added the book to my Goodreads TBR list. When I had the time I requested them all to read for review. I’m so happy I did!
Jackie has created a fantastic world, White Pine Valley, Michigan. The entire town is inhabited by shifters of various sorts. In this first book we meet Phillip, a chipmunk shifter from a VERY large family in Georgia. He has been taking classes online to get a degree in medical billing and coding. He sees his dream job at the Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly office in White Pine Valley and he applies and immediately gets the job! He settles in and starts his new life. His boss, Gunner, is a wolf shifter and is very attracted to the photo Phillip included with his application. It’s not said, but there are suspiciously few applicants for the office job that Phillip gets, even though he has no experience… Gunner knows what he wants and makes it happen. But he’s surprisingly subtle for a determined wolf. He sees how shy Phillip is, and how new he is to this life away from his family. He slowly works his way closer to Phillip. With the help of Beauregard that is. There’s not a lot of plot here so I’m going to stop there before I give anything away. It’s a short, sweet little story that needs to be read!
One of the things I like about this world is the rules are different from other shifter books. There are no fated mates, these guys are attracted to one another because they are, not because they have to be. They don’t heal injuries when they shift, and they DO use condoms. But I notice their mass changes when they shift, so Phillip is a little guy in chipmunk form! I like that all different forms of shifters live together. We meet a chipmunk, a wolf, a bear, a deer, a lion, and a shark! The local businesses cater to different types of shifters, there is a nut and salad restaurant that the vegetarian Phillip frequents, and a steak house that serves raw steak to the carnivores!
This is going to sound goofy, but I totally believe this world could exist. Shifters and all! What a fun story, a cute romance between Phillip and Gunner, a little bit of sex, and a fun new world. If you like shifters and stories on the lighter side, you’ll probably like this one. Or is you are new to shifters this would be a fun place to start. There not a huge amount of plot, no angst, no drama, it’s not very long, but oh so tasty! A good snack of a book.
I can’t wait to read the other books!

BOOK TWO TITLE: Stalking the Hygienist
LENGTH: 17,000 words
BLURB:
This lion shifter will go to any length to get his deer shifting hygienist, including going to the dentist. Bring on the nitrous oxide!
Beauregard made a mistake… a horrible mistake. Now embarrassed,he focuses on what he loves most, working as a hygienist at Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly.
As soon as Sergei saw Beauregard coming up to his meat counter, he fell hard for the deer shifter. The only problem is Beauregard is running from him. Being the lion shifter he is, Sergei decides to take matters into his own hand and goes hunting. However, Sergei never imagined he would have to face his worst fear and choke down a salad. What’s it going to take to make Beauregard his?
REVIEW:
What a perfect title for this book. Sergei the lion shifter definitely stalks Beauregard the deer shifter! Only in this world would this work.
We met Beauregard in the last book, he is a dental hygienist that works with Phillip at Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly. He’s been there a couple of years, and has had a crush on Dallas, the grumpy ass bear shifter that owns the local donut shop. He’s been convinced that Dallas is his mate, but after sharing a kiss, they both realize that is NOT the case! So Beauregard mopes. He’s noticed Sergei, the lion shifter who works in the meat department of the grocery store, but he is not interested.
However Sergei is VERY interested in Beauregard! He spots him coming in with Phillip to buy a roast, and is intrigued by the long and lanky deer. He begins a not very well thought out campaign that seems to feature stalking Beauregard. He has been terrified to go to the dentist, obsessively caring for his teeth so he doesn’t have to, but he puts his big boy panties on and heads in to get a cleaning from Beauregard. He shows up on Beauregard’s morning walk and scares the crap out of his inner-deer. He crashes Beauregard’s dinner at the local vegetarian restaurant with friends and is forced to eat salad! Does it work? You’ll have to read it to see!
Again, I love this world. It is ok for a predator to court prey. It’s ok for a deer shifter to put on scuba gear and get in a tank to clean a sharks teeth. It’s ok for a poison dark frog to flirt with a deer. It’s ok for a vegetarian deer shifter to eat pizza with a carnivorous lion shifter. It’s ok for a lion shifter to drink a martini with a chunk of meat in it! It all works and I believed every minute of it. I loved the extra characters, we get several new ones in this book, and I’m looking forward to their stories.
The writing is light, the story is short and sweet, just a nice little bit of fun!

BOOK THREE TITLE: Chipmunk Drizzled in Honey
LENGTH: 16,000 words
BLURB:
Dallas likes the life he has. He’s the proud owner of the donut shop, Honey Cakes, and now owns the home he grew up in White Pine. He thought his life was perfect until Nikko the chipmunk sashayed into his life. Now, Dallas doesn’t know if he wants to push the spunky chipmunk away or make love to him.
Nikko has known since the moment he saw Dallas that he wanted the bear. Nothing, even the grouchiness of the gorgeous bear will keep him from making Dallas his own. But how can Nikko get Dallas to see they belong together?
REVIEW:
Seriously? I cannot even tell you how cute these damn chipmunks are! I want a Nikko! Or a Phillip!
Nikko is Phillips brother, one of 20 siblings, who came to visit White Pine and never left! He is offered a job by the hunky bear shifter, Dallas, and Nikko is determined to stay and get himself a bear. Nikko is a little spitfire, like Phillip, but maybe even more so. He’s sweet and happy, and a ball of energy.
Dallas is a solitary bear, with a nice quiet life, a simple den, and a successful business. His parents are out traveling the country in an RV, he has Gunner as a best friend, but he’s pretty happy on his own. He also has a slight addiction to honey, and a bit of a belly to show for it! He is a nice big bear!
Dallas wants some chipmunk love but is such a grumpy ass he can’t admit it. So back and forth we go, Nikko literally stripping himself naked in front of Dallas, to no avail…. Dallas continues to resists even though EVERYONE in the whole damn town knows he wants Nikko! With a little push and a shove, Dallas gets a clue and gets a little chipmunk in his big bear bed. And we get to see a very very naughty use for honey!
This is another fantastic little story from Jackie, she continues to bring us fun new characters and further develop this world. We get a bit more about some characters, Livingston the deer shifter brother of Beauregard, who cooks venison for craps sake! And his potential love interest, Marko the shark… with his flat black eyes. Creepy! All these boys hang out together, so we see Phillip and Gunner, Beauregard and Sergei popping in and out interfering and helping. Plus a nice glimpse of what will be a hilarious Christmas story! I can’t wait for that one, and more books in this awesome series!
By the way, this is the book I saw Jackie read the first chapter of at GRL. She could say “fuck” but not “cock”! She’ll never live that reading down, it was so funny, fun, and wonderful, I was sold right then!

These stories and fun and sweet, they are not very long and would be a nice distraction between darker stories. I like drama and angst but there is only so much I can take before I need something lighter. That is what these are. Maybe like half hour sit-coms on TV, quick and fun, a break from the CSI’s and SVU’s that are so dark. The writing is very good, Jackie has a light touch and walks the line between sweet and cheesy very well. The characters are funny and well written, just enough depth to be interesting but not too detailed. There isn’t a whole lot of plot, these are romance stories, so boy meets boy, a little back and forth, and an attempt at resistance, some sex, and a happy ending. Speaking of the sex, it was fun and naughty, with just enough but not too much. I can see many many books in this series, introducing new characters as needed, but following up with the old ones as well. They may not be for everyone, you have to like shifters, humor, and short stories, so if you do you’ll probably like these.
I totally enjoyed these and I’m looking forward to more!
Love Jackie’s books. These are short and sweet. Love them Her other series you need to check out are the Venomous Mates, Moon Compound and Ripples in the Water. Then there is the Birds of Prey series she co wrote with Stephani Hecht. I’m a little bit *holding arms wide* of a fan. *blushing*. Thanks for reviewing them. These gems are so worth it
