Five years ago, Neno Kova? fled California, graduate school, and his lover, Toby Cowan, to return to his native Croatia. Since then, he’s led a quiet life as a librarian—until one November afternoon when Toby, who has never stopped loving Neno, shows up in Zagreb. When he left the United States, Neno wasn’t ready to give up his home and family to take a chance on a long-distance relationship. But Saint Martin’s Day has arrived, the day pressed grapes turn to wine and autumn turns to winter. Perhaps it will be a day when other changes are possible as well.
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2014 Advent Calendar package “Celebrate!”.
Review:
This is a sweet story about reuniting and reconnecting with the love you thought was lost.
When Toby decides to come to Zagreb to find his former lover Neno, things change quickly in the life of the quiet librarian. The love they shared is very much alive and there even after 5 years of separation.
It is nice to read the easy way Neno and Toby reconnect and to see that what they once had is very much still there. The chemistry is touchable and I just need to say Neno is an adorable drunk!
Sweet moments combined with nice loving and serious notes and both Neno and Toby give a whole new meaning to Saint Martin’s Day.
I love these advent stories and I just wish in most cases they were longer as I always want to see more of the main characters.
Author Kim Fielding succeeded very well in finding a way to let the reader make a connection with the main characters of this story in a short time while also setting it in an european background in a unknown country and sharing some customs and family habits in the short number of pages.
With a special note to Mama 😉
A nice sweet read for the holidays.
