Storm Ellison is the sexiest man on two legs. The gorgeous young star of “Trapped on an Island”, the hottest reality show on television, is instantly recognizable the moment he leaves his palatial mansion. Paparazzi follow him everywhere, leaving him no peace or privacy, selling his pictures to the tabloids, and cementing his reputation in the press as a slutty gay playboy. As Storm prepares to sign his first major movie deal, his manager decides he needs protection. What he doesn’t expect, is to be attracted to the cold bastard who’s now running his life.
Balthazar Grant, freelance bodyguard, is a huge, handsome, rough and ready former Marine, trained by the best, and willing to step between Storm and anyone stupid enough to come at him. Always stoic and serious, Taz lends a deadly presence to Storm’s entourage whenever he ventures out in public. Storm doesn’t want a bodyguard, much less one who won’t let him live his fast and loose lifestyle with impunity and he’s certainly not one to be dictated to by an overconfident Marine who has opinions about everything including who he should hook-up with.
When a deadly threat hits Storm’s world, he’s suddenly living his own reality show, only this one has an outcome which doesn’t involve being voted off an island. Will Storm wake up before it’s too late and will Taz be able to fight his attraction to the handsome young superstar while trying to convince him he’s in very real danger? The pair will soon learn that reality is stranger than fiction.
REVIEW:
Where to start with this book…
Storm Ellison is a spoiled TV star with lots of paparazzi and fans following his every move. He’s about to sign a contract for a gay romantic movie, that will send his popularity through the roof. He reluctantly hires a bodyguard, deciding he needs some protection. In comes Taz, a former Marine now bodyguard. He normally works freelance jobs, but the opportunity to be a bodyguard for a star and live in a mansion seems like a good option for him, and he takes the job. He soon realizes Storm may not be the spoiled slut the tabloids make him out to be. He finds himself attracted to the young man, and gets drawn in to the drama of his wild life. Drama happens, Taz comes to the rescue, and they fall in love.
One of the issues I had with this book is I didn’t like Storm. He is a spoiled brat, I didn’t like how he behaved and he seemed pretty clueless to me. I didn’t see the same thing in him that Taz did. I didn’t see an inner strength of character, I really did think he was just another pretty Hollywood actor, who consistently made bad decisions. Also very over paid… I didn’t like Jules, his best friend, who was just a twit. I liked Taz just fine, he was a nice strong character and I wish he’d had a stronger match in Storm. Storm’s housekeeper was just on the edge of annoying. Actually all of the characters were just too extreme. The bad guy was too obviously bad, there was no mystery for me. His agent, his bookkeeper, his housekeeper, his friend, his potential one night stands, everyone was too extreme. Taz was too perfect, big, strong, big dick, buff, etc. Storm was beautiful, talented, popular, just perfect.
The whole book seemed very unrealistic to me. Even the details were off. How would a six and a half foot tall, big ass bodyguard fit in the back seat of a Mustang? I had three Mustangs, I’m 5’ 8” and barely fit in the back seat! Unfortunately I got bogged down in details like that and it pulled me out of the story. Parts of it were good, the sex was very hot, but the dirty talk was cheesy. The basic plot was ok, but too obvious to me. I saw it coming a mile away.
I can see that the banter would be fun if you like that style of book. I found it unrealistic, but that’s just my opinion, and my preference is for more realistic plots. Not everyone’s is. It was a fast paced story, it had fun characters, and was light and a little fluffy. The writing was good, as far as the flow, the dialogue, character development and such, I can see that Patricia is a good writer. It had good sex and a happy ending. I think that some folks will probably like this book just fine. I didn’t dislike it, but it wasn’t as good as I had hoped for.
