What was your research like for The Superstar? Are you a fan of reality TV?
Actually, there was very little research needed for this particular book aside from guns and ammunition (I should own stock in a gun company with as many as my books have sold to the good guys and the bad guys). I live in Los Angeles, which is where the book is set, so that’s easy-peasy, and I’ve watched my fair share of reality TV in my time, though that is limited to cooking shows and Fashion Runway these days for the most part.
It looks like there is no BDSM in this book, did you miss writing that?
There isn’t any BDSM in this book. Thank Goodness! Not that I don’t love writing it, because I do, but I had written 11 books in an 18 month period and I was burning out on it big time. I was laughing about this with a couple author friends (both of which write a fair share of BDSM) and I said, “Oh, my God, if I have to write one more percussion play or playroom scene, I’m gonna hang myself!” LOL. They both laughed because it’s really true. There are of course infinite ways to write a playroom scene, but to keep it fresh and believable… that’s an art form. If I don’t think I can do justice to something, I take a break from it until I do. I haven’t written a BDSM since May and that has been a refreshing breather. Now, of course, I’m writing back to back BDSM’s to finish out an ongoing series but the break was needed.
How do you come up with your character names?
I really have no idea. Some come to me easily but I also have a list of first and last names that I have compiled over the years and if I really get stuck, I’ll pull out the list and pick one. In this case, I had Storm on there and I probably picked it up from a werewolf novel at one time but I just thought man, that’s such a Hollywood name. Perfect for a celebrity. Balthazar was also on the list and I picked it because there’s a joke in the book where the name fit perfectly.
Tell us about your pet situation… Your Goodreads profile says you have an increasing cat collection?
Wow. I am gonna kill Jeff Adkins. LOL. My friend Jeff is my cover artist, web guru, and one of my best friends. He happened to come to visit me in LA from Detroit last November for Gay Pride in Palm Springs where our mutual friend Kage Alan and I had a book signing. At the time, my two female cats had gotten outside and gotten knocked up so we had two litters of kittens born on the same day to the two different mothers. Jeff ended up with kittens crawling all over him every time he sat on the couch and so since he also does the formatting for my books, he thought it would be a great idea to re-write my biography and put it up when he uploaded them to Amazon and the various bookseller sites. Needless to say, he thought it was hilarious and I can’t say no to him, so I let him do it. It’s become a joke, and we have found good homes for all the kittens… well, okay, we kept two so now we have four cats in all *smile*
Where is your favorite vacation place? With your family and without?
My husband and I used to take the kids camping a lot. We live in California and we have some very beautiful National Parks here so we’ve camped everywhere from Lake Shasta to Yosemite, and Sequoia, to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. We’ve also taken the kids to Maui a couple times and on a couple cruises. Those were always a big hit with the kids and because we are close to the Port of Los Angeles, you don’t have to pay for airfare so it is relatively inexpensive for a weekend cruise.
What project are you planning for us next?
I am in the process of finishing up my Invitation Only series. That is a BDSM series with two more books planned and I will be writing the next Marine Bodyguards book to follow “The Superstar”. After that, I have a YA series on the back burner and once I figure out how to write a book without sex in it, I’ll be doing that. LOL
Jules grinned again. “You like Storm, Taz. You LIKE like him!” she raised her voice and Taz looked around to see who else could have overheard her.
“I like him fine, Jules; I work for the guy,” he replied, intentionally misunderstanding her.
“No, Taz, you are ‘in like’ with Storm,” she reiterated. She reached up and took hold of his sunglasses, dragging them off his face. “Look me in the eyes and tell me you don’t like Storm like that, big guy. Whoa, those are some dreamy eyes,” she sighed.
Taz felt embarrassed and exposed without his shades and hated the fact that she could see the very real truth in his eyes when all he wanted to do was deny it. He averted his gaze, staring out onto the dance floor only to regret it immediately when he noted Storm’s arms wrapped around the twink, his lips being plied by the smaller man’s as their lower bodies ground against each other to the beat of the music. The moment he saw them, he frowned.
“See? That’s what I’m talkin’ about, Taz. You can’t stand the way that other man touches Storm. You want him for yourself,” she said emphatically.
