TITLE: Blake’s Home
SERIES: The Love Shack #1
AUTHOR: Cheryl Dragon
PUBLISHER: Loose Id LLC
LENGTH: 110 Pages
BLURB:
Plenty of men have tried to get ranch hand Blake Louis to The Love Shack but none succeed. At the White family ranch, Blake has found friends and a home. He desperately wants to stay. Yet he must keep his shifter secret and avoid his feelings for Jared White. This job has to work out. No one ever wanted him forever–none of his family did–so why would a rich successful rancher want more than a roll in the hay with a dirt poor ranch hand? Screwing the staff is a bad idea but Jared White needs more than sex from Blake. The men are friends but he’ll risk it for a chance at more. Love has never worked for Jared and a childhood rival delights in sabotaging him. Jared can’t give up hope. He believes that Blake is the one. The only smart place to start is The Love Shack, a neutral place where Jared isn’t the boss and Blake isn’t the hand. Determined to win Blake’s heart, Jared delves into Blake’s past. As amazing as the sex is, Blake resists sweet promises. Love, trust, and happiness are as crazy to Blake as the bobcat he can shift into.
REVIEW:
Cowboys, shifters and a Love Shack with a sex filled back room. I could stop right there! Enough said!
In this book, we’re introduced to Blake Louis, a cowboy who has worked at a lot of ranches, with just about every kind of ranch animal. But Blake has a big secret, he is an animal himself when he shifts into a bobcat.
When the book opens, Blake has been working at the White Ranch for a couple months and has caught the eye of the youngest White son, Jared. While they’ve been working together, Jared would like it to be more. He invites Blake to meet him at the Love Shack, a former barn that sits on the corner of four different ranches and is frequented by men from all the ranches. While straight men are welcome, the majority of visitors to the Love Shack are the gay cowboys from the various ranches who come predominantly for the back room, where pretty much anything goes in the way of man on man sex.
Blake and Jared meet up at the Love Shack and things progress from there. How will they overcome the owner and staff aspect? What about the childhood rival, who is also a shifter? And how can Blake get beyond his past, his prostitute drug addict mother and the ultra-religious Aunt and Uncle that raised him? Will Jared freak when he finds out about the bobcat? Is love even possible for someone like Blake?
I really, really liked this book. The characters were realistic and well written. I felt the storyline flowed well and was enjoyable. I felt really bad for the mother who failed at detox and checked herself out. In future books, I hope she returns and gets the help she needs. My only slight negative, this book was quite short. I’m hoping others in the series will be a tad longer…
I recommend this book, and personally can’t wait for book two in the series!
