The Mystique of the Military Man by Cassandra Carr
When Cat Grant asked me to be a part of the Unconditional Surrender bundle, I’d never written a story so embroiled in the world of the military. It was always something that interested me, but had never explored. This bundle presented the perfect opportunity.
As I started to think about what plot would work for my story, I decided I needed to back up. I write a lot of athletes, and I know what I love about them. I know what my readers love about them. But the military? Frankly, I wasn’t sure. Not that these guys aren’t smokin’ hot, like athletes, or that there’s any other reason to think them unworthy of being heroes. We all know they are. They fight for our freedom. But beyond that, what would draw my reader in?
For me, it was making my military man vulnerable. Not weak, but vulnerable. My guy, Clay, has seen a lot and it’s affected him. He’s a changed man, and he carries a lot of guilt.
There’s the stereotype of the strong military man, but these guys are just like the rest of the world. They have dreams, hopes, and fears, just like the rest of us. They want to love and be loved. Yes, they’re an elite fighting force, no matter what branch or rank, but they’re human. They do heroic things, and they make mistakes.
I put Clay together with his childhood best friend, Flynn, who also happens to be a Dominant. Clay needs someone who can absolve him of his guilt, and who can show him the demons he’s fighting can be overcome. Clay needs to be able to give up the power to someone and know they won’t take advantage of it or him.
I hope readers enjoy Clay and Flynn. Their story is one of my very favorites.
Blurb for Civilian Master:
Clay’s back in his hometown, years after fleeing shortly after his seventeenth birthday. He’s an Army Ranger, but after a mission goes horrifically wrong, The Powers That Be in the Pentagon decide Clay and his team need a forced vacation. He’s got nowhere else better to go, and the ambivalence he feels toward trying to reconcile with what remains of his family has driven him to the last place on earth Clay ever thought he’d want to see again.
He’s been interested in the BDSM lifestyle for a while, but Special Ops doesn’t exactly give a person an opportunity to explore stuff like that. Clay finds a club in a larger city a ways from his hometown, and decides to check it out. While there, he runs into the only man he’s ever loved and one of the reasons he left. Now Flynn is a Dominant, and though Clay bolts, he fantasizes about what it would be like to be under the man’s control.
After Flynn tracks him down and the two begin to explore Clay’s submissive nature, though, they may both be getting more than they bargained for. Then Washington calls earlier than expected and Clay and Flynn must make a choice about whether their relationship is long-lost love or a nice break from reality.

Because they are portrayed as true hero’s and everyone loves and needs a hero.
I admire their courage…the fact that they are willing to put their life on the line for others, to honor their country.
The are true heroes and love when they let themselves be vulnerable
I’m reading this right now and it’s so good.
