LENGTH: 37,500 words
BLURB:
After experiencing what happens when someone you love walks away and never looks back, Brandon decided love was for fools. Then he spent a summer with Zach. He struggled against feelings that grew every time he and Zach were together, telling himself they were just having a fling. When Zach confessed his love one hot summer night, Brandon panicked. He scoffed at Zach and made sure he walked away first.
Three years later, their paths cross again when Zach becomes the vet at Wild R Farm where Brandon works. Brandon realizes his feelings haven’t changed, but Zach treats Brandon with scorn despite Brandon’s every attempt to show Zach he’s no longer the self-centered man he used to be. When a night out ends with Brandon driving Zach home, confessions are made on both sides, and hope begins to build in Brandon’s heart.
REVIEW:
I so enjoy these Wild R Farm books, Silvia Violet consistently gives us a good story! I this one, Brandon the jackass gets a chance to redeem himself and prove he can be loved.
Brandon is a horse shifter, part of the herd that lives near the Wild R Farm. He’s been a man whore, at one point he had the potential for a nice relationship with Zach, but he had to go and fuck it up. He scoffed at Zach’s declaration of love, and threw away the only good thing that ever happened to him. Brandon was involved in the rescue of a kidnapped horse shifter a book or two ago, and was helpful, but kind of a jerk. At some point, Cole, the owner of the Wild R, seems to see something of value in Brandon and offers him a place at the Wild R. As we have learned over the last five books, the Wild R has become a refuge of sorts, for various shifters with issues. Brandon does see this as an opportunity to get himself together, and has been working on not being an ass.
Zach is a nice man. He’s a vet in a small town, doing what he loves. The only thing missing in his life is love. He spent a summer with Brandon, and thought there was a relationship there, but Brandon turned out to be a mistake, and he’s back to being alone. For three damn years. He hates Brandon with a passion, as passionately as he loves him still. Trying to move on, he’s just not able to. He manages to avoid Brandon for a long time, until he becomes the primary vet for the Wild R Farm and is forced to see Brandon again and again.
Zach still does have strong feelings for Brandon, as Brandon does as well. But neither is willing to cross that line again, having both been hurt so badly the last time. It was all Brandon’s fault, he admits it, but he has his reasons. As we, and Zach, eventually learn. But we have to have some drama and hot sex first! Brandon spends an evening in bed with a drunken Zach, reminding him of all he is missing, and starting him thinking that maybe he needs to have Zach back in his life. Zach is just drunk of his ass and thinking about getting a good fucking from a big man! This leads to some more pain for both of them, stupid men!
Brandon gets himself in trouble not only with Zach, but with Cole his boss as well. He tries so hard not to be an ass, but he just is! Back and forth they go, with the help of Tristan and Wes, one of my favorite couple from previous books. This is not a long book, it’s not overly complex, but it is still very enjoyable. The couple of sexual encounters between Brandon and Zach and very nice, there is a just enough drama and emotion between them to inspire some good sex and passion. The writing is good, the main characters are good, and I loved revisiting characters from past books. I love the world that Silvia has created for these men, both shifters and humans, and I see a set up for a future book in a new character. I’m looking forward to more!
If you liked the previous books in this series you’ll like this one just fine, it’s a great addition. If you have not read this series and are a fan of books about shifters, they great. Short and sweet stories, with great characters, a great setting, and interesting plots. Give them a try!
