Journalist Carter Roberts was required to interview Carl Foltz and Matt Evans for an article on their lives. It was not an assignment he relished: he just wanted to get there, get it done and get out. Thinking about the subject matter made his stomach churn. The interview reveals as much about himself as about the two men, and for the first time, Carter learns what a real home feels like. He never would have expected that meeting the two men would change his way of thinking – and his life – forever.
REVIEW by Dan:
Although this book deals with a very taboo subject matter and isn’t for the squeamish it is, in my humble opinion, one of the best of Max Vos’ books so far. The taboo warning is an important point. If taboo subject matters bother you, you should not read the book.
The story starts when Carter Roberts is given an assignment to interview Carl Foltz and Matt Evans for the publication he works for. Leading up to that meeting, we get to know Carter through flashbacks and discover he had a horrible childhood. His mother dropped him off at a mall when he was 13 and never was seen again. His father hasn’t spoken to him since he left for college and didn’t speak to him much in the two years before college after he found out Carter was a “faggot”. Carter has never known the meaning of the word “family”.
Carter detests the subject matter of the interview and really doesn’t want to do it. He feels the subject sickens him, but he has no choice because his boss is making him do the job, so he sets off to complete the interview. Carter arrives at Carl and Matt’s farm where he is instantly attracted to Matt. What self-respecting gay man wouldn’t be attracted to a 6’5” tall, muscle bound stud with a baritone so low “it vibrated in your chest”? This is where we learn Carter is only 5’7” and dwarfed by Matt. Then Carl shows up and he is a near duplicate of Matt, but Matt is 28 and Carl is 45.
Throughout the interviews and days in between Carter gets to know Carl and Matt, and realizes he can’t judge them. Who is he to judge? He moves 180 degrees from his earlier opinion. Somewhere along the line sparks fly and Carter is added to the sex mix. All I can say is that the sex gets really damned HOT. As a gay man, I truly enjoy a sex scene written by another gay man, who has been there and done that. No offense to the lady writers, but some of them should read the books written by Mr. Vos and study the sex scenes! This author doesn’t even know the meaning of vanilla. I had to stop a couple times while reading and breathe. He sure knows how to get me, and his other readers, hot and bothered! One of my favorite lines in this book is “it made me want to jump both of them right then and there, and hump their legs like a dog in heat.” Any gay man who has ever been in a pickup truck front seat between two big burly, sexy, hot and sweaty men can instantly relate.
Mr. Vos takes us on a roller coaster ride with this book. From humor and sex, to one point where I had tears in my eyes. I can’t rate this book any higher than a 5.0, but if I could I would! I very highly recommend this book to anyone strong enough to deal with a little discomfort over the subject matter. Buy this book today. Yes the subject matter is taboo. Yes it will offend some. But who am I, or you, to judge? Love is love.
REVIEW by Danielle
Damn you Max Vos for making me cry on an airplane that is what my first thought was after I finished the book. The second? Wow what a compelling, surprising, intense and challenging story.
This story takes you on a emotional roadtrip, grabbing you tightly and not letting you go. I noticed myself, not being able to and not wanting to stop reading.
I have to say the beginning struck me hard. I mean I was considering do I want to keep reading this? Is this going to be ok? I mean saying that it addresses a taboo subject is an understatement. This is hardcore writing and reading, but gosh what a way to do it. This might be the most powerful story Max Vox has ever written. It definitely takes guts to write a story like this.
Why am I not mentioning what it is about, what the taboo is? Because honestly that is not something that should be mentioned in a review. It could influence you and prevent you from reading it and I do want you to pick up this fascinating, extraordinary story.
I can tell you what the story made me feel. Shock because of the reasons already mentioned, like do I want to continue this (I am glad I did obviously). Emotions run heavily through all the pages in this book, toppling you from surprise to wonder, to joy and excitement, from curiosity to tearing up (to name a few).
And the sexual tension? Gosh Mister Vos sure knows how to write his sex scenes. They are real, raw, impressive and bluntly honest (and I personally love his take on those scenes).
The ending shows how incredible this story is. It gives you an inside look into their relationship and what it meant for these men to be together and to have found love with each other.
The emotions in those last few pages ripped me apart and in a way also put me back together again more completely.

Ok, now I gotta read this to find out what the taboo subject is! Great review, thanks!
Thanks 🙂
This was my first Max Vos and I really liked it. I especially appreciate Dan’s thoughts on the book. There are a few male authors I’ve read where I really notice a difference in the sex scenes, and this book was one of them.
I just purchased this book. Great review.
Enjoy reading ! thanks 🙂
Definitely going to read this! That’s two great reviews Dani and Dan 🙂
