Blurb:
When the people you trusted turn on you, when you are the last one standing, should you take your secrets to the grave? Or make the murderers pay?
Former Marine Recon, Mackenzie ‘Mac’ Jackson has secrets. The things he did for his country, the things he saw, must never be spoken about. Until that is, his team is targeted.
A shift in political alliances means one particular mission undertaken by Mac and his Fire Team needs to be wiped from the history books. Starting with the team itself.
Forest Ranger, Samuel Larson III wants to find the Marines who saved his life. He just wants to say thank you. What he can’t know is that he’s walking into a firestorm of betrayal and murder.
When Samuel arrives at Mac’s place he throws Mac’s plans for hiding out of the window. Abruptly Mac has to protect a man that threatens his heart, only this time he can’t be sure he will succeed in keeping Sam alive.
As is usual with blog posts I get stuck about what to write. I want to post about things that readers want to know and so I asked my FB group what they wanted to know about my new release, Last Marine Standing
Denise Dechene asked what sort of research do you have to do to write about lawmen, military etc? Do you get people in those fields read the technical parts to make sure they are authentic?
My research is a daily thing. I literally read and watch everything I can. Of course, a lot of my details are based on what I have read on websites, or in books, but I also have various experts I call on for help as and when I want their help. For example when I drew my SEALs in the Sanctuary series, I had someone in the Navy who worked near the SEALs and gave them an authentic twist with real details. I have a reader who has a son who is a marine, I have a best friend who is an experienced nurse. Then I have my TV shows, and my own imagination.
For example, take the scene in Ellery 6 with the attack in the park. I wrote it and then I asked my nurse friend – how can someone be nearly dead and then saved by a passer by who uses his initiative? She told me about credit cards and holes in lungs and suddenly everything made sense.
I also subscribe to a couple of writing places where they have workshops on various things, like guns, or crime.
Viktor cleared his throat. “When Luca asked me to be his best man I didn’t have to think about it. I’ve had this asshole’s back since the day we met.” He paused and Sam wasn’t the only one who laughed at the tone and the joke. “Seriously, it freaked me out when I realized I’d have to stand up in front of you all and act like I can actually do this kind of thing. This is my fourth draft of the speech, but I owe this one to Aiden. I had a speech with jokes, a speech with serious, probably classified, stories, after which I’d need to shoot you all.” He paused as laughter and clapping swallowed his words. “Then the third draft I tried to use both but none of it made any goddamned sense, excuse my language. So Aiden sat me down and said I should just tell him what I thought about losing my sister to a SEAL.”
Sam heard Luca groan theatrically and that caused yet another ripple of laughter in the audience.
“Go get ’em sailor,” Aiden catcalled. Another laugh. The speech was going well.
Viktor continued, “So I admit to not thinking that someone with our training, our—” He paused and glanced over at Aiden. “—skill set is probably the right way to describe it. So yeah, someone with our skill set isn’t set up for stability and love, then I met Aiden.”
“Again,” Aiden pointed out loudly.
Viktor mock scowled at his lover “I met Aiden, again, and I fell in love with him, and I realized love is bigger than your job, or your life experience, it’s the one thing that keeps us from drowning in all the crap life throws at us. It lets us open our hearts and allow someone in, it lets us be free in a way I don’t think I ever felt before. So, when I look at Luca, I don’t see a fellow SEAL, or the man who had my back just as much as I had his, I see someone who looked after Ben when I needed him to. Who dropped everything to help me with the ones I loved. Who came to love my sister.”
RJ Scott has been writing since age six, when she was made to stay in at lunchtime for an infraction involving cookies. She was told to write a story and two sides of paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born.
As an avid reader herself, she can be found reading anything from thrillers to sci-fi to horror. However, her first real true love will always be the world of romance where she takes cowboys, bodyguards, firemen and billionaires (to name a few) and writes dramatic and romantic stories of love and passion between these men.
With over sixty titles to her name and counting, she is the author of the award winning book, The Christmas Throwaway. She is also known for the Texas series charting the lives of Riley and Jack, and the Sanctuary series following the work of the Sanctuary Foundation and the people it protects.
Her goal is to write stories with a heart of romance, a troubled road to reach happiness, and most importantly, that hint of a happily ever after.

I LOVE this book. It is amazing.
Have you done many of the workshops? I wonder what they’re like…
Faithfulness, humour and honesty. Wishful thinking eh? Lol!
