BLURB:
Reeling from the recent death of his wife, police officer Evan Cerelli looks at his four children and can only see how he fails them. His loving wife was the caretaker and nurturer, and now the single father feels himself being crushed by the pain of loss and the heavy responsibility of raising his kids.
At the urging of his partner, Evan celebrates a coworker’s retirement and meets disgraced former cop turned security consultant Matt Haight. A friendship born out of loneliness and the solace of the bottle turns out to be exactly what they both need.
The past year has been a slow death for Matt Haight. Ostracized from his beloved police force, facing middle age and perpetual loneliness, Matt sees only a black hole where his future should be. When he discovers another lost soul in Evan, some of the pieces he thought he lost start to fall back in place. Their friendship turns into something deeper, but love is the last thing either man expected, and both of them struggle to reconcile their new and overwhelming feelings for one another.
Author Tere Michaels brought Matt and Evan from Faith & Fidelity over to have a little chat 🙂
What is your idea of a perfect date?
Matt: Beer and a locked door.
Evan: I was going to say Italian food and a mattress – no, I’ll still say that. It sounds classier than your answer.
Matt: How is a mattress classy?
Evan: I was being romantic! I was thinking about one of our first dates, not a stained mattress in a squat.
Matt: Well in that case – a mattress, Italian food, beer and a locked door. The perfect date.
Evan: Was that so hard?
Evan: Stop laughing.
Do you believe in karma? Soul mates? Destiny?
Matt: No.
Evan: No.
Matt: Maybe.
Evan: Really?
Matt: Karma. Although that might be wishful thinking.
Evan: But not soul mates or destiny?
Matt: No.
Matt. Maybe.
Matt: Soul mates no. Destiny – maybe.
Evan: So we were destined…
Matt: I show up at a party that I know is going to suck. You’re there.
Evan: You called me that night, when you were near the station…
Matt: Well.
Evan: Well?
Matt: I was actually in Staten Island and I wanted to see you.
Matt: Stop smiling.
Do you consider yourself a romantic person?
Matt: Hell yes.
Evan: No.
Matt: I don’t think that’s true. The other night you lit candles!
Evan: The power was out.
How do you define romance?
Matt: What gets his pants off.
Evan: If that’s your definition I can see why you declared yourself a romantic person.
What is the difference between sexuality and sensuality?
Matt: Sensuality is over the clothes, sexuality is under.
Evan: You are seriously not in charge of questions pertaining to sex when it comes to my children.
What is the most romantic thing you have ever done?
Evan: Told him to stay.
Evan: Allergies?
Matt: Shut up. I have something in my eye.
Do you believe in public displays of affection?
Evan: Next question.
Matt: I grab his ass in parking lots. And there was this one time on the Long Island Expressway while he was driving. I leaned over and…
Evan: Next question.
What is the best relationship advice that you have ever gotten?
Evan: No one in the relationship is a mind reader.
Matt: Banana flavored lube is disgusting.
Evan: Seriously? That’s the best advice? I feel like Liz might take offense to that.
Matt: She’s the one who told me!
Would you move for your partner?
Matt: What are we talking about here? Hong Kong? New Jersey?
Evan: There are places in New Jersey closer to Manhattan than Brooklyn.
Matt: I see your mouth moving…
Evan: What if I got a captaincy in New Jersey?
Matt: We’ll meet in Times Square for dinner.
Evan: What if all the kids move to California?
Matt: Then we’ll move to California.
Evan: So you’ll move three thousand miles for the kids but you won’t take the Tunnel for me?
Matt: It’s New Jersey!
AUTHOR BIO:
Tere Michaels unofficially began her writing career at the age of four when she learned that people got paid to write stories. It seemed the most perfect and logical job in the world and after that, her path was never in question. (The romance writer part was written in the stars—she was born on Valentine’s Day.)
It took thirty-six years of “research” and “life experience” and well… life… before her first book was published but there are no regrets (she doesn’t believe in them). Along the way, she had some interesting jobs in television, animation, arts education, PR and a national magazine—but she never stopped believing she would eventually earn her living writing stories about love.
She is a member of RWA, Rainbow Romance Writers, and Liberty States Fiction Writers. Her home base is a small town in New Jersey, very near NYC, a city she dearly loves. She shares her life with her husband, her teenaged son—who will just not stop growing—and three exceedingly spoiled cats. Her spare time is spent watching way too much sports programming, going to the movies and for long walks/runs in the park, reading her book club’s current selection, and volunteering.
Nothing makes her happier than knowing she made a reader laugh or smile or cry. It’s the purpose of sharing her work with people. She loves hearing from fans and fellow writers, and is always available for speaking engagements, visits and workshops.
