BLURB:
Felix’s life is full, juggling a supportive homelife for his disabled brother, a job as a care home assistant, a brand new boyfriend—and now he’s had his arse pinched by a lewd gay ghost on the late night bus!
If only that were the end of it. But Bryn the ghost follows him home and wheedles himself into Felix’s life. That includes sharing his shameless opinions on the patronising way Felix treats his brother, on how Felix should eat more food and put some flesh on his bones, and—worst of all—exactly how Felix should be getting down to it with his seriously sexy new boyfriend Mickey! And in between all that, Bryn finds time to leer at Felix himself and make outrageous suggestions on what they’d be doing if Bryn wasn’t…well…ghostly.
Felix considers he’s a tolerant guy. But the last thing he needs now is to get wrapped up in the mystery of a missing teenage girl, the inhabitants of a local squat, and conversations with a fire-and-brimstone old preacher. Yet with a nudge or six from Bryn, the help of his brother Patrick, and some cosy loving from Mickey, Felix starts to wonder how he ever thought his life was busy before!
REVIEW:
Poor Felix needs a bit of focus in his life…. He and his brother Patrick live together, their parents having passed away. He spends a fair amount of energy worrying about Patrick, and not really living his life. He works at a care center for elderly folks, and he seems like a really caring man, between caring for Patrick and his patients. He sort of has a boyfriend, Mickey, they have been friends for some time and have just decided to try being boyfriends. But Felix isn’t too sure about this plan. Mickey is in real estate, wears expensive clothing, has an awesome hair style, drives a nice car, works out, eats expensive food, and for some reason wants to date Felix. He seems to genuinely care for Felix, and wants to help both him and Patrick. But Felix is trying so hard to be self supporting and independent, that he doesn’t let Mickey in his heart or his life much.
One night while riding the bus home after work, Felix gets his ass pinched. By a ghost. They have a conversation, the ghost is pretty snotty, and he follows Felix home to continue to harass him. And again in the morning! Bryn, the ghost, compliments Felix’s ass, swears a lot, sneaks in to his body to kiss Mickey, and eventually makes him eat pastries. I can see that Bryn wants to help Felix and sees the value of his relationship with Mickey, but he is so pushy I don’t think he really helps! The main storyline of this book is Felix’s search for the granddaughter of one of the old guys at the care center. The old guy is really an asshole, and I wasn’t sure why Felix even got involved to tell you the truth. Mickey, Patrick, and Bryn do help, and the mystery of the missing girl is solved.
Overall the plot was ok, I wasn’t really sure why Felix got involved in this search for the girl, but it was a little bit of an adventure that added some drama. The relationship between Felix and Mickey was bland, no romance, not much sex, and I don’t think they spent enough time on page as a couple. Patrick was there, came and went, and helped, but didn’t have much of a personality. Bryn alternated between obnoxious and funny. This was meant to be a paranormal story, but nothing he did really added to the plot, I don’t know if it would have mattered in the long run if he was there or not. There were a couple of cute moments and dialogue, but really not much happened to any of them that was that interesting.
It was an ok story, I didn’t dislike it, but it wasn’t outstanding. I didn’t feel the emotional or physical connection between Felix and Mickey, and I wish we had seen more sex between them. I just wasn’t a memorable story for me.
