Hilton and Cathal have spent years dancing around each other, but when Cathal needs help, Hilton comes to Montana to back him up. Soon, they’re dealing with children and an old friend who can’t take “no” for an answer. And finally admitting their love turns out to be the least of their worries…
REVIEW:
Of all the three books I was looking forward to this one the most. Since book 1, I was so intrigued and interested in the Burke/McKinley dynamic. From book 1 you could feel the intense pull between the two. I immediately wanted to know what was behind it and where it came from. I needed to know who was the alpha, who controlled who in this relationship. What I found was, they were in essence, equals and I was ok with that, it made sense.
When we first met them in book 1, never shy Herb, let us know that there was some definite tension(of a sexual nature) between the two. We see that within the first few moments of this book. McKinley goes to his boss (Burke) to let him know he needs to take some personal time off to go back home to deal with his ailing father and druggie sisters 4 kids. You can tell immediately that these two want each other and you also get a sense that their feelings run deeper then just sex. Burke without hesitation agrees to letting Cathal take time off and makes him promise to contact him if he needs anything.
Once Cathal is back home he finds out his fathers condition is way worse then he originally thought. He reaches out to Burke, who again, drops everything for Cathal, and is on the next flight to be with him.
What follows is some petty family drama involving Cathal’s sister, a completely oblivious ex-girlfriend who seems to think she may still have a chance with Cathal, and the adorable shenanigans of twin boys.
Hilton and Burke dive head first into taking care of his niece and nephews, while falling more in love with each other. Even after the father dies, there bond continues to get stronger and that was very apparent.
I did enjoy this book more than the first two. It was well thought out, with a solid plot line that kept me interested throughout the book. I didn’t understand the CIA scene though. It seemed like it was just thrown in and made no sense.
Overall, this was a good book. I didn’t love it however and I really wanted to, especially after the first 2 being just ok. If you like super sweet love stories with little to no angst, then this series is for you.
