TITLE: Beneath the Stain Part 4
AUTHOR: Amy Lane
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 85 pages
BLURB:
Mackey’s fragile recovery from his bout with self-destruction is complicated even further by his feelings for Trav—and Trav’s feelings back. Trav is older, and he should know better, but now that Mackey is drug-free and conquering his demons, all he can see is the stunning, brilliant man who existed under the stain of pain and excess. Trav and Mackey struggle to find a balance between Mackey’s recovery and their growing attraction. Trav decides to make a rare leap of faith—but can Mackey find enough faith in himself to make it through life in the spotlight and a visit to the past that almost destroyed him?
REVIEW:
Now we are getting somewhere! When last we visited Mackey’s world, he was deep in rehab, fighting to get the drugs out of his system and make room for Trav. Trav wants a relationship with Mackey, but only if Mackey is sober. This may be enough to keep Mackey on track. No way to know at this point though! So we wait and see what happens…
Mackey is doing fairly well in this part, he settles in to the house with the other boys and Sheila, gets back in to the studio and starts recording. Trav works his ass off to keep them all on track, healthy and moving forward. Some family issues come up, a blast from Mackey’s past resurfaces and causes a potential meltdown, but somehow they keep Mackey and his shit together. It was nice to see Mackey and Trav moving toward a relationship of some significance. There is hope for them at this point, but it is an Amy Lane book and we have a few more parts to go! The extra bit at the end was quite revealing about a certain character and his sexual feelings.
This part was very good, but not as emotionally draining as some of the other parts. It was fairly calm, other than one Mackey freakout. It was gentle somehow, a bit more “normal” compared to the previous parts. Still very well done and amazing as expected from Amy! It’s getting hard to review each of these, there are only so many ways I can say that AMY LANE IS A FANTASTIC AUTHOR, BUY ALL HER BOOKS! But it’s true. This book, series of books, episodic release, whatever you want to call it is fucking amazing.
Here are my reviews of the first three parts:
