BLURB:
A gripping, blood-drenched saga about twin brothers, the men they love, and the enduring truth that true love never dies — no matter how many times you kill it.
Thierry d’Arjou has but one escape from the daily misery of his work at a medieval abattoir — Etienne de Balthas. But keeping their love a secret triggers a bloody chain of events that condemns Thierry to a monstrous immortality. Thierry quickly learns that to survive his timeless exile, he must hide his sensitive heart from the man who both eases and ensures his loneliness…his twin brother.
Shaped by the fists of a brutal father, Olivier d’Arjou cares for only two things: his own pleasure and his twin. But their sadistic path through centuries is littered with old rivals and new foes, and Olivier must fight for what is rightfully his — Thierry, made immortal just for him.
REVIEW:
Wow, this book was different than I thought it be and I’m glad that I had the chance to read it.
Thierry d’Arjou and Olivier d’Arjou are twin brothers who were raised under the fists of their tyrannical father. They had each other as well as their little sister. They have the bond a twin bond that allows them to feel what the other is feeling. It keeps them connected. That’s both good and bad. To have someone who knows you inside and out is something that we all want and yet, there are also some things that you want to keep just to yourself. Thierry learns this the hard way.
Thierry is in love with this guy Etienne. Etienne is the love of his life and he’d do ANYTHING to keep him by his side. Etienne feels the same way. Their love is binding and everlasting. The issue that keeps arriving is Olivier. Olivier is OBSESSED with his brother. The love he feels for him is not brotherly at all. Olivier wants to be the only one that Thierry wants and needs and he’ll do and say ANYTHING to keep Thierry by his side. The relationship that the twins share is just beyond cruel. The relationship between them is ying and yang. Good and Evil. Thierry really just wants to be free of Olivier and he can’t seem to shake him no matter what. I will say that even though Olivier was this horrible character, I felt bad for him. There is just so much bent and shredded inside him and the way that he was raised by their father surely didn’t help him any, but he makes my heart hurt. I want him to be better. I want more for him and from him.
I really liked that this story expanded over 600 years. You got to see the twins got from human to vampire and all their adventures in between. The hate and envy that Oliver has anyone who takes Thierry’s attention from him is beyond crazy. Olivier’s lack of morals and is ability to just delve and enjoy the darkness that has always been in his soul is hard to bear. Thierry carries himself with a modicum of dignity that you wouldn’t believe. He hate what he’s become in the way that he’s not bothered by anything. Yet, Thierry’s true desire is Etienne. He just wants the love of his life back in his arms. He’s tired of his brother and the life that they lead.
There was a fair amount of sex in this book. Mostly M/M, yet there was a tiny bit of M/F. The intimate scenes between Thierry and Etienne were always filled with such emotion and tenderness. You felt the love between them. For Olivier, it wasn’t ever anything but scratching an itch. No emotion behind it unless it was about feeding or revenge. The difference again between the twins is shown via their relationships with others.
This book was fast paced, gritty and thrilling. You get sucked into the story and you don’t want it to end. I will say that there was action and suspense flooded during this story. I will say that I felt like Thierry at the end of the story finding out that Olivier was important and he’s not allowed to be free of him forever, burned my biscuits. I find myself hoping for another book in order to find out why Olivier is important. Why Thierry isn’t free of his brother. I want to know who is pulling the strings on the other side. The ending left me with more questions and didn’t end cleanly for me and my curious mind won’t allow me to be done with this story until I have all of the information. Good Job, Mr de Lorne, you’ve captivated my imagination and my interest and now I’m awaiting your next book in this series.
