BLURB:
My sister Julia manipulated my life into a prison to keep me silent about our dirty family secret. Her greed made me a slave and circumstance left me with no way to escape.
Trapped, the only way I could silence the nightmares driving me to insanity was to wrap them in color, hold them with shadow, and stitch them to negative space with line.
But no matter how bright the pigments, no one could see my confession.
Except for Roy Callahan.
I thought he was just another nameless one-night stand in a long line of many.
But I was wrong. Roy could see past the façade of my life and through the veil color over the canvas. He could see what the world couldn’t.
And with him I’d find the courage to tell the truth about the boy.
The boy who kissed me.
The boy who loved me.
The boy whose name I couldn’t remember
REVIEW:
I don’t even know where to start with this book. To summarize this story it starts with Paris first seeing Roy at one of his art showings. You get a feel immediately that something is just off with Paris. I loved him and hated him. He is so passionate, especially in regards to Roy, who is introduced to us as an ex-con repairman that’s at the gallery to fix a malfunctioning a/c unit. Their first meeting is passionate and explosive; I immediately craved more interaction from them.
We quickly learn that Paris has a very troubled childhood and is currently being controlled/abused by his psychotic older sister who has made herself Paris’s manager and legal guardian. What unfolds is the most tragic and beautiful love story that I’ve read in quite some time.
Paris allows his sister to keep him drugged and compliant. She beats him whenever she loses her temper. You find out that he suffers from several different disorders. He paints to try and heal himself of his past. All the while he forms this unbreakable deep bond with Roy. Roy is an anchor, he’s strong, he never waivers from his feelings of Paris. Roy’s innocent while Paris is so tainted but them together is truly magical. Roy continually tries to save Paris, while Paris continually tries to destroy himself.
I truly loved this book. But it was a hard, painful, magical read. My stomach was in knots reading a good 90% of the story. I think to truly get to a place of healing and contentment, it was imperative for us as the reader to go through all the gut wrenching turmoil. I would deem this a must read, but go into it with the knowledge that it’s going to hurt, a lot, but when you come out the other end, that moment is well worth it.

Congrats on your first review Amber! 😉
Thanks Amber , looking forward to reading .
This was one of the best books I’ve read in that ‘stomach hurts’ category. I can’t begin to describe it either … it’s a hard read … but very satisfying. If you start … you can’t put it down! As a teen counselor … I’ve seen this before in real life & it’s so hard! Great read!
