Deputy United States Marshal Mitch Knox apprehends fugitives for a living. His calm, cool, collected attitude and devastatingly handsome good looks earn him a well-deserved bad boy reputation, both in the field and out. While away on an assignment, he blows off some steam at a notorious Dallas nightclub. Solving the case that has plagued him for months takes a sudden backseat to finding out all there is to know about the gorgeous, shy blond sitting alone at the bar.
Texas State Trooper Cody Turner is moving up the ranks, well on his way to his dream of being a Texas Ranger. While on a two-week mandatory vacation, he plans to relax and help out on his family’s farm. Mitch is the last distraction Cody needs, but the tatted up temptation that walks into the bar and steals his baseball cap is too hard to ignore.
As Mitch’s case gains nationwide attention, how will he convince the sexy state trooper that giving him a chance won’t jeopardize his life’s plan…especially when the evil he’s tracking brings the hate directly to his doorstep, threatening more than just their careers.
REVIEW:
I’m a huge Kindle Alexander fan, let’s just get that out of the way, first. Up In Arms is quite frankly my go to book when I’ve read too many books and I need a break. I need read something sweet and tender and that allows me to go back to reviewing lots of books. So, when this book came up, I wanted it. I’ve read EVERY book that they have written and I couldn’t wait to read this one. I’m really glad that I did.
Mitch Knox is the quintessential bad boy. He lives his life honestly and isn’t afraid to be who he is. He’s tatted up and is this big, muscled guy who wears clothes that announces to all who he is and that he makes no qualms about it. Mitch works for the US Marshal’s office and we met him in Double Full, the first book in the Nice Guy series. He’s sexy, brash, honest and a smartass. Everything that you could possibly love in a MC. Mitch finds himself jealous of the relationship between Colt and Jace. He realizes that he wants that. He wants the love and connection between himself and someone. Mitch is also so very dedicated to his job. He’s really good at his job and the case from Colt and Jace still haunts him. He knows that it’s more than what is seen. He’s read the case files and he knows that it is deeper and more sinister than even what he knows. This case haunts him because of the men, all gay who have lost their lives and those who may also lose their lives if these guys aren’t caught.
Cody Turner is Texas State Trooper who has always wanted to become a Texas Ranger. He has always put his career first. The dedication to his career is quite admirable. However, it’s not left room for many relationships. Cody is so very close to accomplishing his goal, he’s moved from just a regular trooper to working on mounted duty. His older brother works the farm that he grew up on and comes from a line of Officers, his father and brother are on the force. Cody is the youngest child in a huge family. I like that Cody is this big, muscled guy who is also just about the sweetest guy in the world. He’s sweet, loving and the bonus…he’s shy. He blushes so prettily. Cody is just trying to enjoy his time off and hit one of the most famous gay bars and sees Mitch. Cody is so sweet and kind and yet, he’s so insecure when it comes to how others see him, especially Mitch. Mitch makes Cody feel. Mostly out of his depth, but he feels a connection to Mitch that scares him. He’s so close to accomplishing his goal and then this guy comes along who quite frankly turns his life upside down. What’s a guy to do but belt in and see what happens next.
The secondary characters in this book were great. I loved Kreed, Mitch’s partner at the US Marshal’s office. He’s tough, intelligent and he gets his partner. They work so well together and their love for each other is unrivalled. Connors is Mitch’s temporary partner at the FBI, and he’s this wonderful foil to Mitch’s fly by the seat of his pants, lets break the rules approach. Sheila, Cody’s sister was great as his closest sibling and confidant. Sheila had his back no matter what and always was there to give good advice when needed. Aaron Stuart, the computer hacker who Mitch works with, is not only smart, he’s a good friend to Mitch.
Now, the sex in this book was not only hot, it was filled in such openness and feeling. It was sexy, hot and it was beyond tender. These two guys brought the heat when they were being intimate. Their intimacy was beautiful to behold. The way that they could express their true feelings for each other in this way that couldn’t express verbally. Beautiful.
The mystery/suspense in this book was AMAZING. I was hooked on the case. I loved how you were kept on the edge of your seat regarding who was behind all of this. I am normally that girl who figures out who did the crime, but this book…not so much. I knew someone on the inside was helping, but really…such a great mystery. I loved how it’s not over yet. How it sets up the next book in the series.
This book was filled with lots of mystery/suspense and romance. This book is a thrill-ride of suspense, mystery and the right amount of romance. I was hooked into this book and wanted it to end so I could figure it out and yet, didn’t want it to end because of the great characters and the growing relationship between Cody and Mitch. I hated that I had to work and plans after work as they took me away from our guys, but I snuck in as much as I could.
