BLURB:
Can a flashy sous chef and a hard-working landscaper go beyond their pasts and find one another?
Homeless as a teen, Malcolm Bissette has found a new life at the Southern Charm. Flamboyant, he often changes his hair color on a whim. At sixteen, he crushed hard on the landscaper Reece Simpson.
Now all grown up, Malcom still has a crush on Reece, but there appears to be no reciprocation from him. Malcolm watches him at work every day from the kitchen, but lets the crush disappear. He vows to forget the man—that is, until Reece changes the entire game.
Waiting for years to get his hands on the vast overgrowth around the Charm, Reece Simpson dives into the project with enthusiasm. Preferring plants to people, he sticks to just brief moments with men. There is one man he would consider staying beyond a moment with, though—the flashy, colourful sous chef at the Southern Delights. Realising his feelings, Reece is knocked off his feet by a wave of emotions. Is he in time to catch this flirty chef?
What would it be like to have Mal in bed? Would it make the summer afternoons even steamier? Is there a chance for love for both of them? Could they entertain the idea of a life together like their friends?
REVIEW:
I was really looking forward to reading this book as I’ve been looking into reading the prior books and I figured this would be a good way to see if I wanted to read the previous books.
We start this story with two men who have known each other about 10 years. They are in the same circle, yet they don’t really hangout and really don’t know much about the other.
Malcolm “Mal” Bissette is this wonderfully vibrant young man who changes his hair color on a whim. That’s one of his trademarks, the dyed hair to show that he’s happy. Mal has had a crush on Reece from the moment he met him all those years ago when Dakota took him in and gave him his second shot at life. Mal is this really sweetheart of a guy. He’s a really great friend. He’s so very kind and loving. Mal is just a really good guy to have as your friend. He’s the sous chef and he uses his food and his flair in all things in a way that will brighten your day. Mal sees his friends falling in love and he knows that’s what he wants and he knows who he wants it with. The question is….will it happen?
Reece Simpson is this really kind man who really isn’t a people person. As a young child/teenager, living with a family that had little regard for him at all, he fell in love with plants and making things grow. Reece has taken that passion and turned it into a business. Reece has made himself into the man he is today with no help from his family. He’s got this wonderful group of friends that he really gets along with and they care about each other so much!! Reece has never had a romantic relationship as he’s unsure about how to connect with people. Reece is such a great guy. I really liked how honest he was regarding how he didn’t really know what he was doing. Yet, when he took the time to explain why he is the way he is….you just fell more in love with this guy.
The secondary characters in this story were so supportive to our MC’s. They gave love and support when needed and they also gave them Hell when it was called for. I really like that this group of friends love each other so much and it showed in the way that they treated each other and the way that they cared for each other. Such an amazing group of friends who stand by each other and show that there is no place else that they’d rather be than with those they love and love them in return.
There was a nice amount of intimate scenes in this book. It was more sensual than hot and sexy. These two guys had the slow burn thing going for them. The physical part of their relationship was never rushed. It flowed and happened when they were both ready to take that step. I really liked that the intimate scenes weren’t overwhelming. It really brought out the nature of their growing relationship.
Overall, I find that I enjoyed the story. I liked that this was a sweet, tender romance. I find that I liked how the author used the other characters from the previous stories and kept them incorporated in this book. I like how their relationships are on-going and you still get to see the progression of their relationships. Our MC’s were such sweet guys that it was nice to see them grow not only as a couple but also as individuals.
