REVIEW:
An anthology is always fun to read, but details make a fun series a good one. Reviewing just one of those stories is a little different, and connecting the stories might actually add to the quality. But for now I will concentrate on the story I’ve read. But I will guarantee you that I will read the whole series, as they have great potential.
Artistic Endeavor focusses on a professor, Micheal Esteban, at Cathia University and Cobey, a twenty-five year old virgin. Micheals long-time friend Eli introduces them, and asks Micheal to break Cobey in into the world of Gay-Sex. Reluctantly Micheal caves in and accepts the challenge. Reluctantly, because Micheal doesn’t do relationships. After a painful break-up a year ago, of which the reader is offered some peeks, Micheal vowed to himself to only have casual sex.
From the first moment Micheal lays eyes on Cobey I felt that Cobey was just too pretty, too perfect, too sweet, to just be a sex-partner. Yet Withley manages to prolong the tension, the want that Micheal has for Cobey, the slowly built tension of the first kiss, the first blow-job, the first everything to keep the reader engaged to the story. And with every (slow) step this couple takes it has the reader urging them on. Take the next step, I heard myself shouting at Micheal and Cobey. Yet Micheal shows enormous restraint, and makes sure Cobey sets the pace.
But they have that agreement, no commitment, just sex. And as the gorgeous sex-scenes progress, with the reader panting for more, Micheal reminds himself every single step, that there is that agreement. And when after Cobey is fully educated, and they have enjoyed every single position, both as top and bottom, Cobey tries to tell Micheal that he loves him. With Micheal thinking the same, he knows he can’t do relationships, so he avoids the question. All because he knows that in the end, love hurts.
Luckily for the reader this story has an HEA, because after a week of solitude, Micheal saves Cobey from a bad experience. And after a hospital visit Cobey gets the chance to convince Micheal to take a leap of faith and give Love a try once again. Because maybe it might only last a week, but it might also last a lifetime. And after Micheals concession they actually propose and are rewarded with the Happy Ever After every one dreams about. A quality story by Grey, that keeps the reader enthralled and had me rooting for them. Jumping from one hot scene to the other, it had me invested in them as a couple. The restraint Micheal shows is believable and amazing at the same time. Many a times, I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to do that. Yet Grey manages to show Micheals doubts and wants, by giving us a peek into his mind. Greys ability to describe Cobeys virginity at every level and at every step losing some of that, is mind-boggling. Written with style and class, because after reading this I wanted to applaud Micheal (and Greys) self-control in slowly releasing the boundaries. Therefor I reward this story with 4,5 stars

This one sounds especially appealing!
I normally don’t buy anthologies. I’m almost always disappointed but you are starting to tempt me with all the reviews. Plus I love college student stories.
Sounds good. I don’t usually buy anthologies either, because I like longer stories, but this sounds good. I need to go back and check the reviews for the other stories. Thanks. 🙂
Great review – I’ve been a fan ever since reading High Concept. I just bought this anthology and looking forward to reading this one.
