Welcome Erica!
Thanks so much for having me over!
This year will be my third GRL and I´m looking forward to it as much as I did my first one. However, what I’m looking forward to has changed.
I had no idea what to expect the first year, so the excitement was about walking into the unknown (and visiting Albuquerque of all places!). I met some of my best friends for the first time: Z. Allora, who introduced me to the super awesome Clancy Nacht and Thursday Euclid; N.J. Nielsen; Embry Carlysle; and K-Lee Klein. N.J., K-Lee, and I had started the Hop Against Homophobia and Transphobia (HAHAT) earlier that year, so it was super exciting to see the people I’d been working with. The cherries on top, though, were Anne Tenino and Edmond Manning – a duo that will keep you in stitches.
The second year was all about repeating the first year, but of course it wasn´t the same because you never really experience things the exact same way (I watch Christmas Vacation every year and I always find new things to laugh about). What I came to love last year in Atlanta, was the company. Edmond Manning was a blast and I’ve dubbed him an honorary Viking. Cutie B.G. Thomas and I connected and became two peas in a pod, and I danced with him and Rick Reed in an after party. I had breakfast with Hope Standifer, before I partied hard with party girl Lorraine Morgan at an undisclosed location and did things that shall not be mentioned here. Finally, I had dinner with Clancy Nacht, Thursday Euclid, Cherie Noel and her minion Tracy, my cousin Thora, Alexandr Voinov, and L.A. Witt – who kept us laughing the whole time. Fusion cuisine, I recommend it!
Cherie Noel had joined in the HAHAT that year and although I had already met her the previous year, I was now dying to spend time with her. And did I ever. She, Embry, Thora and I roomed together. You’d think it would have been crowded with the four of us sharing a room, but it was a blast. We stayed up late talking and the bathroom was not even an issue: I showered in the evening so my hair would be dry-ish by morning (it’s very long and thick), Thora would shower first thing in the morning, then Cherie, and Embry would wake up last. We hadn’t even discussed this schedule beforehand, so we fit like little pieces of a puzzle in that room. Another thing was that nobody cared if the room wasn’t super tidy all the time, so a piece of clothing here and there didn’t matter.
I´m rooming with these ladies again this year since it went so well last year. That´s what this year´s excitement is about. Of course there are loads of other things I’m also looking forward to, but the best thing about GRL is meeting new people and strengthening friendships already made. Of course, Zathyn Priest and Sam Rohan are coming this year, and… Well, I’ll just die when I meet them. Authors are readers/fans too, you see. Besides, Zath has been one of my dearest, most trusted friends for a couple of years now, and Sam’s always been one to make me laugh.
My question for you is, if you’ve been to GRL, did you room with anyone and how did it go? If you haven’t been before, but are going this year, are you rooming with anyone and what are your expectations of such an accommodation? Does it scare you? Excite you? Do you worry about snorers? Because they are people too, you know!
Blurb:
Jesse’s like a bar of soap: the tighter Adam holds on, the faster Jesse slips away. Or that’s how it feels to Adam. It doesn’t help that Jesse has a girlfriend back home and claims to be straight, but there’s no way with all the sparks and physical intimacy flying between the two roommates.
When Adam believes he has reached his ultimate happiness, the walls come crashing down with a visit from Jesse’s girlfriend.
Now Jesse has to decide if he can come to terms with his sexuality, while Adam has to learn to accept that Jesse might never be able to crawl out of the closet.
“Mmmh,” Jesse groans on my pillow and stirs in his sleep.
My thigh was pressed against his when I woke up an hour ago, and it’s still there, skin against warm skin. I’m afraid that if I move I’ll spoil the beauty of having his naked body in my bed. So for now I lie on my side and watch him sleep.
The skin over his muscles relaxes and tightens as he breathes. I’ve admired his athletic build since I first saw him. It helped that I got to see him naked on the very first night he moved in.
I’d decided that morning to tell him early and give him a chance to move out if he wasn’t cool with my sexuality. After the last guy left, I was sure whoever moved in would just move right back out after learning the truth about me.
As soon as I opened the door that morning and saw Jesse holding out his hand, my irritation evaporated in a flash. I shook his firm grip and gawked in fascination as with a smile, he introduced himself as Jesse Jefferson.
Now why I didn’t tell him about my sexuality until a full twelve hours later is still a mystery.
“I hope you don’t mind,” he’d said after dropping his dusty blue jeans with a wry smile playing on his sensuous lips. “I always sleep naked, so if you see my admiral saluting in the morning, don’t take it the wrong way, ‘kay?”
His frankness caught me off guard and he flashed me white teeth as he laughed. I didn’t know whether to look at his too-touchable sun streaked hair or his beautifully exposed privates. He seemed so natural standing naked in front of another man that I didn’t know what to think of it. I think I may have blushed.
When he finally ducked under his white sheet, I swallowed down my drool and undressed under my own sheet. My penis throbbed hard against my boxer briefs.
He turned off the lights. The throb kept time for at least half an hour as I stared at the ceiling. His breathing told me he was still awake.
I cleared my throat. “So, why are you moving in now? It’s already been two weeks since school started.”
“My roommate kicked me out because I sleep in the nude.”
“That’s tough,” I said, willing my dick to relax.
“Why didn’t you have a roommate?” he asked.
“Because I’m gay,” I answered.
It was never a secret. I always answered truthfully whenever people asked.
Jesse, snuggled in his sheet, was quiet for a full second before his back convulsed in a rising laughter. “That’s a good one,” he said in between laughs. “I suppose I laid that one out for you. I like your humor, Adam. I’m sure we’ll get along just fine.”
Maybe I should’ve pursued it. It would have been easier for him to really know it and have his freak-out, before I grew to like him too much.
But a perverse part of me was curious to know when he would figure it out and how he would react. Mostly, I really didn’t want him to leave. I thought if we became buddies first he might react more positively.
A month later and he still doesn’t have a clue.
I watch his pure face on my pillow as he draws in slow breaths, so peacefully oblivious of my wild fantasies. The heat from his thigh is almost overbearing.
It’s like I’m lying to him every day. He innocently says and does things that I snatch up and twist into something sexual in my dirty mind. We’ve become great buddies and I’d feel crushed if he left, but it’s time to tell him how things are.
I wonder what he’ll do when he wakes up. Jump out of bed with a scream? Tear the sheet off my body to cover himself and thereby reveal my hard-on? Shove his clothes on and move out? Or slide his arm around my body and kiss me, like I secretly dream about every single day? It’s hard to guess.
Jesse groans again and shifts his body to lie on his back. His cock slides fully erect against my sheet as he moves. What I wouldn’t give to be the object of his dreams right now.
I want to run my hands down his chest, feel the heat of his relaxed body, and let my palm rest on his slow breathing stomach. I want to tuck the other around his neck, push his head upwards, and then slowly lower myself into a kiss. How would he react to that? I could turn it into a joke if he’d get angry. He’s very liberal as it is, so maybe it would be okay. He even smacks me on the butt and winks sometimes when he passes by. Can’t I make homo jokes as well, or do such jokes only work between straight guys?
Maybe I should just pretend to be asleep when he wakes up.
Jesse groans again and shifts his body to lie on his back. His cock slides fully erect against my sheet as he moves.
Erica lives in Iceland with her adorable little twin boys. She often says that her real name sounds like Klingon to foreigners. Seriously, if “Eyjafjallajokull” looks like a random string of characters, it’s nothing in comparison to Erica’s name.
She’s been writing for several years, or ever since reading became an obsession. Aside from a business degree, Erica has taken English courses at the University of Iceland and gulped down anything that might help her in her career as an author. She takes great interest in English, but will break every single grammar rule for the sake of The Voice.
Erica loves hearing from her readers. She’s a friendly, easy-going (if a bit silly) person who doesn’t mind talking about herself in third person.

An Ecopy of A Life Without You
Hi Erica, thanks for sharing your experiences at GRL. I haven’t had an opportunity to attend yet, but perhaps next year. I’d love to meet many of my favorite authors/bloggers.
I enjoyed reading the excerpt the book sounds really good.

Hey, great interview. I hope I wi!
Firstly I enjoyed reading this post and the extract and thank you for the chance to win one of Erica’s books 🙂
Secondly: sadly I have not been to GRL, but when I do I am not sure I can share a room as I am light sleeper and I will have to deal with jet lag from coming from so far away LOL. However I would love to have loads of friends, bloggers, authors, etc to have a ‘sleepover’ and we chat away to all the wee hours talking about our favourite subjects 😉
Thank you
We also had some friends over late in the night. People don’t really sleep much at the retreat 😛 We’re all caught up in trying to spend as much time with each other as we can. And the parties…
I would love to go to a GRL. Would be so much fun!
Loved the excerpt!
Thanks for the great post. I haven’t been to a GRL yet, but I will one of these years.
The excerpt was really enjoyable. I can only imagine how hard its for some people to accept there sexual Id
Great post & giveaway!

Meeting the Icelandic Princess at in New Mexico and again in Altanta was one of my FAVORITE memories!!!! Thora singing to me…
LOVE THIS BOOK BY THE WAY!!!!
Hugs, Z.
I’ve never been to GRL, and most likely never will, but I adore reading about it . Thanks! 🙂
Hi Erica! Thanks for the love!
GRL sounds like a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing your experiences and for the giveaway!
I haven’t been to GRL yet, but I would love to go!
I love reading book excerpts 🙂
Looking forward to meeting you, too, Erica! As for roomies, well I’ll be sharing my room with Sam, so I’m used to him. He doesn’t snore, but if he did, I’d just smother him with a pillow 😉
The hotel can easily provide you with extra pillows if he’s changed his sleeping habits 😉
This will be my third GRL and I’ll be rooming with my FB friend that I roomed with the first year. We got on without a hassle and, since we’re both pretty easy-going about sharing the same space, I expect this year will also be a blast. Besides re-connecting with friends and authors I’ve met at past GRLs, the authors I’m most excited about meeting for the first time this year are, coincidentally, fellow Australians Zathyn Priest and Lisa Henry.
And you have to go all the way to the USA to meet your fellow Australians ^.^
That does seem to be a roundabout way of doing it, lol.
The book sounds great. Thanks for the excerpt and giveaway!
Wow, GRL sounds great. Enjoy yourself! Thanks for the post and giveaway.
This book sounds terrific and I loved the interview. Thank you for the giveaway:)
I loved the excerpt and love your writing.
I haven’t been to GRL. Thanks for the interview and the excerpt.
This is my first year for GRL, and I’m hoping to find a roomie, but I haven’t looked to hard yet. Eeep! Hopefully there are some other procrastinators out there. 😉
congrats to sula on the win!
