Series: Seasons of Love #2
Author : B.G Thomas
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Length : 350 Pages
Blurb:
Scott Aberdeen doesn’t believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or God. Or love—at least, he knows no one will ever love him. After all, he has carried a torch for his best friend Sloan for a decade, hoping his feelings will be returned one day. But when Sloan finds springtime love with another man, Scott’s fantasies are crushed and his skepticism confirmed.
Cedar Carrington, raised by rock star parents, leads a free-spirited, nomadic life, never staying in one place for long. Due to a dark past he refuses to share or even think about, he is willing to let men into his bed for sex, but never for the night.
When Scott finds himself camping in the middle of nowhere with over a hundred men who all believe in love—and faeries and a magickal gay brotherhood—he’s pretty sure he’s in the wrong place. And when Cedar connects with cynical, critical Scott, he wonders how he could be falling in for this man of all men. But hearts and lives have been transformed at the Heartland Men’s Festival before, and it might be just the place where two very different men can release their pain and find true love at last
Review:
Wow, where to begin this review. What a different story than I expected. This one caught me by surprise, being familiar with the work of author B.G. Thomas and liking his work very much I was enthusiastic to pick up this new release.
After being introduced to Sloan and Max in the first book in this series (Spring lover) it was great to read some more about them in this release as well as another man introduced in the first part as well, Asher Wyatt and especially Scott being one of the main characters of this novel , and a novel it sure is. You better make sure you are ready for the ride because I will guarantee you, this book will take you on one for sure!
The beginning though had me wondering where it all was going and it even had me wondering for a bit if this was going to be a story I could enjoy.
After lets say a quarter it picked up very fast, grabbed me to the point that I didn’t want to stop reading I mean sleep who needs it, right…?
The story pulled me in, setting you up for more and had you wanting to see where this story was going to take you – uuuuhhh ok not only me also where it would take Scott.
You get introduced to Scott in a way that is very real but that is also very disconcerting for me as a reader. You can almost literally feel his lack of self-confidence, his inner struggles and his despair in wanting to find that special man that will love him.
The first part revolves around that process. When Scott gives into what his best friend Wyatt has been wanting him to do for years, he is faced with a life changing experience.
His beliefs are shaken up, his reasons are questioned and even the way he has been living his life is being set on loose screws.
What comes next is exploration, a self-exploration, a search of his own inner feelings and beliefs and what he has been told and learned to believe for himself.
At the Heartland Men’s Festival he meets “The Jockster” also known as Cedar. The gorgeousness and inner beauty of the man strikes something inside Scott that he was willing to forget upon.
When they come together it is not just sexual attraction… they both feel it’s more.
Can they both overlook their own beliefs and find reasons to overcome them all?
That is for the reader to find out 🙂
A separate mention I would like to go to the side characters of this story.
You just cannot not love the main people for the Heart circle. I’m not going to name them but they are so worth getting to know, trust me.
As I mentioned there is Sloan and Max and Asher and there is also Wyatt who, along with his partner Howard has been a part of the Heartland Men for years. (Please Mister Author let the next story by Wyatt’s! )
I’ve rarely disliked a character so much as I dislike Howard he literally made me sick in reading some things he did. Why the strong reaction? Well I guess it prooves how deep this story touched me and grabbed me. (big kudo’s to B.G Thomas for making that happen)
Wrapping this all up I have to say I fell in love with the characters. Not just the main characters but so many more in this story (for example because I just need to name one, Blue!)
I can mention the extreme sensual and high sexual tension there is between Scott and Cedar. I can mention that I am speechless about how inner thoughts and struggles are being written out on paper here in this story and I can say that it touched me in a deep way.
I can even mention this isn’t a story for everyone for all the reasons mentioned somewhere above.
But if you want to take the trip just let yourself being picked up and roll the on waves, find your own net …..
