BLURB:
With his fauxhawk, sleeve tattoos, and visible piercings, Ridley Corbin has the whole bad ass vibe going on in spades. The image serves him well as the self-proclaimed protector of the underdog, and he wants nothing more than to be Alex Firestone’s hero.
Alex, a mild-mannered library assistant, has moved to Slater, a quiet college town, hoping to hide from his past. He keeps to himself, but that doesn’t save him from catching the unwanted attention of the campus bully. But not all is as it seems. Alex’s past comes calling, and it’s time he becomes top dog.
REVIEW:
Ridley Corbin was the protector of the underdog, a role he’d come into as a direct product of his upbringing.
Bullied for being a rather unfortunate looking runt as a child, Ridley learned quickly how to best deal with bullies. As he grew older and bigger he cultivated a BAMF vibe and set himself up as a defender of bully victims everywhere. Maybe not in the dramatic way I made it sound. He doesn’t run about in a spandex outfit looking for some vigilante action. But when he sees someone being bullied he isn’t about to look the other way, especially if that someone is the object of his every fantasy, Alex Firestone.
Alex works as a library assistant at the university Ridley attends. He has floppy blond curls and totally rocks the gorgeously trendy nerd look. When hotshot campus bully, Kyle Bouche, decides to make Alex his target Ridley is all set to charge in like the proverbial knight in shining armor but Alex is entirely capable of saving himself. If Kyle wants to be a smartass, Alex can handle it and when Kyle wants to get a bit more physical, well, Alex can handle that too. In fact it seems as though there may be more to Alex than we, and Ridley, first thought.
“So clue me in. Who is Alex Firestone?”
Well, that’s this book’s secret isn’t it.
The blurb led me to believe that I would be reading a rather standard college story about a tough guy and a cute nerd who have to deal with bullying, and that’s what this book delivered. For the first 50%. Then I don’t know what the hell happened but the Bad Ass Mother Fuckery meter just cranked a whole lot higher and this story went from interesting to WTF just happened there? But, I assure you, it was in an absolutely exciting way. Very quickly Ridley learns that some tats and a fauxhawk do not a BAMF make.
The sex in this story is absolutely off the charts intense and I think some of the best that I’ve read in a while. To be honest I think I’ve read so many sex scenes at this point that I’m sort of over them. I often skip them or read YA to avoid them because they rarely hold my interest. But this book most definitely captured my attention and the only time I looked away was to check over my shoulder every now and again to ensure no one was reading from behind me. It’s certainly NSFW, unless you run a sex shop. Or make porn. Or maybe if you’re a stripper. You get the idea, I’m sure. There isn’t too much sex but what sex there is manages to bring the police to Ridley’s door and leaves Ridley’s penis feeling used and abused.
His dick was coated with a nasty crust of dried cum and looked a lot smaller than it normally did in the morning, almost like it was trying to hide inside for fear Ridley might actually want to use it again. But it was his ass that had taken the brunt of Alex’s aggression. He’d be feeling Alex for days.
Ok, I realize that quote is a little gross but I still love it so I had to share.
I know many of you are probably planning to read this book anyway, because who doesn’t love a bit of SJD Peterson? But if you’re on the fence about it, I can assure you that it really is worth the time. I loved that this book kept me guessing the entire time I was reading. I never knew what would happen or how the characters would react. So like Alex suggests,
“You might want to hold on. It’s going to be a hell of a ride.”
