A big warm Love Bytes welcome to Author Jeanette Grey! who joins us on the blog today with an interview AND a Giveaway!
D: What made you start writing or was it something that you always wanted to do ?
J: I’ve always wanted to write, but for most of my life, I was too busy with other things, or I wasn’t ready to really dedicate myself to it and put in the time and effort it requires. Then I ended up in a really terrible situation, career-wise, teaching at a school that was draining me dry. One summer break, I started reading again and fell in love with stories and story-telling. Not long after, I got back to writing, and finally committed myself to giving it my all.
For readers who don’t know you what kind of genre do you prefer to write in?
I have a few different genres that I rotate between. I don’t have the longest attention span, and switching between genres from time to time helps keep things fresh for me. I write a mix of contemporary romance, new adult, and futuristic romance, and I write male/male pairings as well as male/female.
Can You tell us something about your new release “Get What You Need”? and how it came to exist?
Sure! The book is a college romance about a geek and a jock who seem to have nothing in common, but who each end up being exactly what the other needs. Greg (the geek) is a workaholic who’s so focused on his studies that he’s forgotten to take care of himself, while Marsh (the jock) is the kind of guy who seems to have it all but is secretly floundering, struggling to keep up with his classes and pay his rent.
The story started out as a germ of an idea I had about Greg’s character. I thought it would be interesting to explore the idea of someone who was sort of repressed, but not because he was in denial about who he was, but because he was so focused on one thing (work) that he denied himself all the other things he needed to be happy and healthy. That turned into the idea of a geek who thought he didn’t have time for love or sex. One jock later, I had a love story about insecurity, coming of age, big life choices, and letting another person in.
Do you have a couple of favorite books that you would like to recommend?
I’m sure most of your readers have already read it, but Admit One by Jenna Hilary Sinclair was the first male/male romance I ever read, and it remains one of my favorites.
Is there anything you would like to write that you haven’t yet?
Only about a million things! I have a four-page document full of nothing but story ideas. One theme I’d really like to explore in the future is that of family, and being accepted into your partner’s family as you embark on a relationship together.
A couple of short questions I would like to ask :
your favorite tv program? Buffy the Vampire Slayer
your favorite movie? Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
your favorite color? purple
your favorite way to spend a day off ? A day off? What’s that? J I suppose it’d be hanging out at home with my husband and maybe a few friends, just relaxing and enjoying the company.
your favorite food and drinks? Chocolate, red wine, and coffee
What is coming from your hand ? what can we expect in the future?
I have a futuristic romance coming out in January called Through The Static. The hero is part of a mercenary unit where he’s had his mind cybernetically linked to the minds of his fellow soldiers, and his memories erased. He escapes, but in order to function, he needs to have his thoughts connected with those of another person. A couple of wires get crossed in the process, though, and it leads to a much more intimate connection than either of them expected.
Thanks Jeanette!
Love isn’t rocket science. It’s much, much harder.
Determination and elbow grease propelled Greg London from blue-collar background to Ph.D. candidate. His single-mindedness doesn’t leave a lot of room for a personal life, but that’s the price of success. Besides, it’s not like the boring nerd ever ends up with the hot guy.
Then his housemate, gorgeous undergraduate jock Marshall Sulkowski, invites him to watch a movie. In his room. Side by side on his bed. Needless to say, the sexual tension is wreaking havoc with Greg’s focus.
Marsh seems to have it all—looks, charm, and a baseball scholarship to a great school. In reality, his father’s cut him off, and he’s floundering and desperate for a break.
One impulsive kiss leads to a red-hot affair that gets them a little bit of what they need to stay afloat. But as the end of the semester approaches and the pressure rises, Marsh realizes charm may have gotten him into his brilliant lover’s pants, but he’ll have to dig deeper to discover what they both need.
Warning: Contains housemates falling into bed with each other, a geek who needs a break, and a jock who doesn’t know his own worth. Also, vague science and explicit m/m sex.
