SERIES: A Havoc Novel Book 1
AUTHOR: SE Jakes
PUBLISHER: Riptide Publishing
LENGTH: 270 pages
BLURB:
Embrace the danger.
Sean Rush is an adrenaline junkie. That’s why he was in the Army, why he steals and races classic muscle cars . . . and why he can’t stay away from bad boy Ryker, a Havoc Motorcycle Club lieutenant. Fortunately, Ryker can’t seem to stay away from Sean—he’s spent the last eight months breaking into Sean’s apartment and stealing into his bed, leaving Sean physically satisfied but increasingly restless.
Sean has always avoided relationships. He likes to come and go without being controlled. And Ryker is possibly the most controlling man he’s ever known. Still, he finds that he wants more from Ryker than their silent nighttime encounters.
Then one of Sean’s thefts goes bad, and Ryker’s protective instincts kick into overdrive. He takes Sean to the Havoc compound, determined to keep him safe. But Sean’s past threatens the safety of Havoc—and everything Ryker holds dear. Worse, Ryker’s hiding secrets of his own. Soon it’s obvious that the adrenaline rush can’t keep them together anymore. But maybe love can.
REVIEW:
Wow!! That’s the first thing I thought when I finished this book. So much going on and where to start?
Sean Rush is 24 years old. Sean has had such a wild life and he’s still running wild. He’s been in juvie, the Army and now he’s back in civilian life doing the same things that he did a young man. Sean is trying to get his life somewhat together and yet, it seems that his life is getting more and more out of control. Sean is this really complex character that I wasn’t sure if I liked or not. I mean, he was trying to do better and then, he’d get in his own way for making the changes that were needed. He does get better somewhat. I mean, he’s still got issues that need to be resolved, but for this book, they were resolved enough. Sean suffers from PTSD and it hits him hard. I hurt for Sean. So young and yet, his life has been so filled with hurt and violence. It’s really a wonder that he’s as sane as he is.
Ryker is sexy!! I don’t think that there is another word for this guy. Just SEXY!! Ok, you might want more. Sigh. Ryker is a Lieutenant in the Havoc MC. He’s been watching Sean for awhile now and has been sleeping with him for months. I love the fact that he’d break into Sean’s house and leave in before Sean woke up but left a rose for him. He’s romantic in a different way. He listens to when Sean talks, even when he doesn’t mean to. Ryker is this mysterious character. You never find out if that’s his first or last name. I really didn’t care while reading it, but now it comes to me. Hmmm. Ryker’s life wasn’t easy either, but his loyalty to Havoc and to Sean is just beautiful to see. I loved that Ryker wasn’t totally good or totally bad. He’s the perfect blend of both. He loves hard and he is so very loyal to those who are in his family. I will say that no matter what, Ryker’s character was sexy as all get out and I’d be willing to forgive him most anything. That’s hella sexy.
This book was filled with action and thrills. I got started on this book and had to finish it to see what happened!! The car racing/car stealing action was really well researched and kept me entertained. This whole book kept you on the edge of your seat. I was really happy to read a book about an MC that was doing what it needed to in order to make it and yet, to see the compound and the people there…it was nice to see that they truly do take care of their own. There was a fair bit of violence in this story, however, there really couldn’t not be. That part of the story was very integral to the storyline and it was very well done.
I loved that this book didn’t give away anything. I had to read the book to figure out who these character were and what their motivations came from. I liked that I couldn’t figure out how it was going to end. That I had to go on the journey with Sean to see how it was going to end. I’m glad that I had the chance to read this book and follow along.
This book was so wonderful book. To watch Sean go through all that he went through in his past and yet to still go through all that is happening in this point of his life and to see him come out of it a stronger man was really great to watch. To get to see that there was more to Ryker than what you’d originally thought was great as well. You go through so much with Sean and when the book ends, you’re ready for Sean and Ryker’s life to truly begin.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out. SE Jakes has started a new series that will quickly grab hold of you and not let go.
