Desire that runs deeper than blood…
Solitary Shifters, Book 2
Colt Easton is easygoing, fun loving, good with little kids…and he occasionally turns into a beast capable of ripping out a man’s throat. It’s a family secret he’d be more than happy to keep—if there wasn’t a little boy’s life at stake.
A deathbed confession revealed the child could carry Easton blood. The only way Colt can monitor the boy is with a job at his day-care center. The problem? New laws decree that all shifters be tagged. No blood test, no job.
Dr. Jasper Glen is instantly drawn to the outgoing Colt and is certain any child would be safe in the handsome shifter’s care. He ought to know—he’s been studying shifters for years, even invented the blood test that now, to his shame, the government is using against them.
All it takes is a quick vial switch. Except Jasper’s good deed blows the lid off a secret he didn’t even know he was keeping. And triggers a chain of events that makes them all moving targets.
REVIEW:
Colt is the kind of guy that you’d love to hang out with and have a beer. He seems like a really good guy. He works with kids, not just kids, but toddler age kids. Holy Moly, Batman!! He doesn’t cuss as the kiddos will mimic him and he wants to be a good role model. He’s loyal and kind and so very generous. Colt is on a mission from his deceased brother and he just wants to get in and get it done, that is until he meets Glen.
Jasper Glen has always had this fascination with shifters. So he leaves his successful vet practice to work for the state controlled SSU (Special Shapeshifters Unit) that does blood tests on people to see if they are shifters. He hates his job, but he feels that this is the only way that he can do his research work and be able to fill his thirst for knowledge of these species. Glen has changed from the way you used to be…so very eager and focused on getting his answers and he didn’t care how he got them. He’d use anything, say anything, do anything to get to his goal and along the way he hurt someone and now that haunts him. That has bothered him and that’s why he’s had this change of heart. Glen is really a good guy and during the course of this book, you really see him step up and try to make this right and to help.
There was a a bit of suspense in this book and it was actually done really well. You didn’t know who was it was until the end. I really have to say that the author kept the bad guy well hidden and even though I picked out his associate, I didn’t know who had done the dirty deeds until he was revealed. Great job!!
There was some sexy times in this book, but it was never explicit or it was off page. The intimate moments were there to help push the bond between the two MC’s closer and never was it there to titillate. I have to give the author props for that.
I will say that the world that the author created was actually really well done. It served to remind that we as people NEVER really like what we don’t know and that we automatically fear it and thusly must be made to feel persecuted and feared. I really liked that the author showed that some people weren’t that way. It was also interesting to see that the way people thought it was ok to group these people and do experiments on them as if they had no soul. I totally got behind that.
I will say that the premise of this book was really great. I did enjoy it, but I have to say that I really didn’t see the main characters together. I just didn’t really see the vibe between them and that bothered me a bit. I loved the idea of shifters of different kinds that are living out there and just trying to live a normal life and that they are feared and are persecuted against. I really love the mystery/suspense part of this story. I again was very pleasantly surprised at how much I really enjoyed that.
