After his partner dumped him with a pregnant surrogate four years ago, Cary Whitmore was forced to play single parent while starting up a new business. With the dog bakery now semi-successful and his son healthy, Cary thinks he may be ready to date again.
Heath Cummings is trying his damnedest to get his charter boat service off the ground and dreams of one day soon being able to quit his job as an offshore driller. Paying off his dream requires making it through a couple more years, which means being open about his sexuality isn’t in the cards just yet.
When the two take their flirting to the next level, Cary wonders if he can handle another guy who might take off, while Heath has to decide if he can risk his dream of a laid back life—and giving up his long-held and much enjoyed bachelor status while taking on a child when being a father was never on his to-do list. Will they sink, or will they keep swimming?
Review :
This story came to me kind of by accident and boy am I glad it did! This is a wonderful story and such a good and easy read. It’s a story that I am sure you know the feeling when you start reading and then want to continue just because it feels so comfortable reading it.
I did read some other works from author Kade Boehme and I cannot say I wasn’t curious about what to expect from this one.
I was very pleasantly surprised by a kind of story I didn’t expect.
This story is absolute contemporary stuff. The family life, the drama that is there, but not excessively.
Cary is adorable and his kid Gus is the cutest! Heath is hot and sexy “nope I don’t need a picture to just know as Kade Boehme described him perfectly to see them in my mind”
It is nice to see how they grow towards each other, finding their way in what they both feel is happening.
The insecurities from Cary are valid and understandable and as a reader you can also understand where Heath is coming from and why.
Both have had their share of heartache and need to find out if they can and want to take another risk to see if it could be the whole deal.
The Title “Keep Swimming” which is the name of the yacht Heath lives on, in my opinion symbolizes the choices needing to be made on both parts not just from Heath who is the one with the dreams and goals, but also Cary who needs to find a way to be more secure and to trust.
A special part in this story is reserved for Gus (Cary’s son). Who wouldn’t love that kid?
He not only steals Heath’s heart but I am sure the heart of every reader of this novella.
I would like to mention that my heart beat a tad more faster because there was an announcement at the end…..Kyle’s story is coming!!! It’s awesome news and I definitely will be in the line to read this when it is there 🙂
Though this story isn’t too complex and it doesn’t hand out too much drama or angst, which I know some readers crave, it grabbed me with it’s sincerity, honesty and the easy, comfortable writing. The story has a great flow to it!
So If you are looking for a nice, contemporary story this is strongly recommended and you won’t regret picking it up.
