Having come out late in life, forty-three-year-old Luke Jordan is at a loss about how to conduct himself as a gay man. As a construction manager, he’s not interested in being out at work, but he’d like to find a boyfriend or at least some gay friends. Two years after his wife got all their friends in the divorce, he’s no closer to the life he wants.
Zach, Luke’s adult son, takes charge and signs him up for the Rainbow Blues, a social group for gay blue-collar workers. At an event, he not only finds friends but meets Jimmy Alexander, part-time stage actor and full-time high school biology teacher. Jimmy loves the stage but wishes potential boyfriends weren’t so jealous of the time he devotes to it. When he meets Luke and finds him accepting of his many facets, he thinks it’s a dream come true.
Their relationship quickly moves into serious territory, but their connection is tested to its breaking point by the offer of a juicy movie role that takes Jimmy to the opposite coast and into the path of a very sexy costar.
REVIEW:
This was such a sweet romantic story. I truly enjoyed reading such a tender love story. Just did my heart good.
Luke Jordan recently came out about two years ago after being married for more than 20 years. He’s the father of a college age son, who loves his father so very much. Luke has always known that he was gay, however, trying to hide his sexuality while in high school led to teenage pregnancy and marriage. Luke has worked hard to become a construction manager and be able to provide for his family. Now that Luke is semi-out, just not at his job. Luke is this really wonderful guy who did a bit of the bar scene and realized that it wasn’t for him. He wants more than the fast hook-ups that happen when you meet at bars. Luke is so kind and generous. He’s loving and loyal and so wonderfully sweet. I love that he’s blunt in what he says. I really liked Luke from the moment that he was on screen. Luke is the kind of guy that you’d love to have as a friend.
Jimmy Alexander was such a sweet character. Jimmy has been acting forever and he’s dedicated to his craft. I like that he’s also a teacher. That he’s molding young minds as well as following his passion for the stage. Jimmy is a sweet man. He’s been an out gay man since he was young and he’s at the stage where he wants someone to love and be loved in return. Jimmy is this wonderful guy. He’s also so very kind and sweet and gentle and so very loving. He’s an all around great guy.
Such a wonderful story about a man who took his responsibility of a teenage pregnancy and subsequent marriage to heart and did what needed to be done, even if that meant suppressing his own sexuality. Then to see Luke make the choice be able to allow both his wife and himself the opportunity to find the love that they both deserved. I really loved Luke and Jimmy together. They were such a wonderful couple. They communicated with each other all of the time, except for the angsty part at the end.
Overall, this was a really sweet, nice read. I enjoyed reading a book that showed that love and communication was important. I loved how they responded to each other. I loved that they didn’t mess around with wanting to spend the rest of their lives together and were moving forward with their plans. Such a great read and something nice to enjoy when you want a sweet romance.
