When Curt Townsend, a successful young DC lawyer, attends his first gay wedding, he doesn’t expect anything more than a great evening out spent celebrating two lucky guys willing to commit to one another. He certainly doesn’t anticipate meeting someone like Jack Farinelli. Fourteen years Curt’s senior, Jack owns two businesses: a gay bar and a motorcycle shop. He’s gorgeous and self-assured, but Curt is positive they have nothing in common.
Jack is comfortable in his own skin. He’s attracted to Curt’s quick wit and easy manner but most of all, to their unexpected mutual love of baseball. As they forge a friendship based on their shared enthusiasm for the sport, they begin a journey which reveals how their differences might be the catalyst behind a growing attraction. Both men have experienced their share of pain, but they realize they need to set aside the past and learn to trust in a future if they are to have one together
Review:
Well this was a book I can honestly say I was waiting for 🙂 From the moment I accidently read and reviewed the first book in this series (Better Than Good) I was hooked. Something in the story, the writer and the characters just clicked as they say sometimes.
I was impressed by the way this new author wrote the story and I was thrilled to see that there would be more; more of the characters from the first book into the second and now into the third.
In the first we got to meet Aaron and Matt, in the second book (Better Than Chance) we met Peter and Jay and this story centers around Curt and Jack. They are both men we got introduced to in the second book and I was thrilled author Lane Hayes set them up together for this third part.
One of the things that I, as a series reader, love is that we get to see the main characters of the first two book in this book quite often and it’s like revisiting old friends. We even start out at the wedding of one of the previous couples (Peter and Jay).
When Curt sees Jack there is no denying that there is some instant attraction there. Complete opposites, as they obviously and most certainly are, they work through a comfortable friendship, a shared passion for sports and a mutual attraction for each other setting the base for the future.
There are two different issues here Jack who has had his share of pain resulting in him not wanting to go for a serious relationship but preferring to just have a good time.
Curt, on the other hand, doesn’t want an occasional fling but is looking for a serious relationship even though he is quite a bit younger than Jack. Curt also gets set up by friends Matt & Aaron with Paul, who’s a nice man and definitely wants to try to work on something more than just an occasional fling when it comes to Curt.
There is also my only critique about this story. It takes quite a long time for Curt to make choices when you feel like he did that already or should have done that in an earlier stage. In the book it takes almost the complete novel and for me that was not necessarily a good point for this story but more the opposite.
I like to emphasize that I love the characters in this series. They are awesome, adorable, very different and they “live” so to speak. Author Lane Hayes takes you on a trip with her way of writing and takes you with her through the story.
You can relate to Curt and you can relate to Jack. You can feel attracted one man or both, find some common ground or just longing for what if….
Read this story (actually, read this series) enjoy the men and the stories, their differences and similarities. Follow Curt and Jack finding their way towards each other. Learning, accepting, growing up and laughing, loving and living!
Question to the author—is there going to be a spin off? Because honestly Paul deserves his story told 😉
