Bonded by their parents before they were conceived, Abel Nasa and Zakai “Kai” Berura adored each other since they were children. As teens, the two future Alphas took the next step in their bonding process and vowed to remain true to one another until Kai came of age. But when tragedy struck, Abel felt betrayed and ran from Kai instead of completing the mating bond.
Years pass with no contact between the two, but Abel never stops yearning for the man who was supposed to lead by his side. When Kai returns, broken and on death’s door, Abel must look past what he saw and trust his heart so they can fulfill their destiny and merge their packs.
Review:
Cardeno C is one of my favorite authors and with this story it is once again confirmed why. The emotions are so well written; they come across so realistic. The story line is a bit predictable, but still has lots of little details that make it fun to read.
Abel’s heartache is very understandable, yet when you read why he and Kai have never finished their bonding, you want to kick his butt. As a reader you just know there is something more going on.
Kai comes in later in the story, broken and desperate. There is just one thing I would change about this book and that’s how fast Kai recovers and gives in to Abel. Yet with the background you get from their youth it’s understandable.
One of my favorite characters in this book is Kelly, Kai’s sister. She’s a real spitfire. I won’t tell you anything else about this, because it would give away too much, but she’s something!
For a short shifter story, this is a great read. Yes I like them long and I feel that this short is too short, but that’s only because it’s just too good to stop already. I want to read more about these characters. That’s a compliment to the author in my honest opinion. So if this was a full length novel, I would’ve swooned.
So for readers who like to read in between busy periods or before bed, this is an excellent story. I can definitely recommend it.
