When a human is chosen to lead the pack instead of him, Beta Dan Keller struggles to find his footing in a rapidly changing environment. Committed to his pack and not one to turn away from a challenge, Dan follows his Alpha’s request and works with Nathan Ross, the new pack Omega. Though he is initially concerned that Nathan’s weakness will harm the pack, Dan learns there is more to the shy wolf than meets the eye.
As Dan struggles to balance his growing feelings for the young wolf with his responsibilities to his pack, new threats emerge and Nathan’s loyalty is questioned. Not understanding the basics of being a wolf leaves Nathan vulnerable and the pack at risk. Can Dan embrace the true role of a beta so he can protect the man he has grown to love and save his pack?

Omega Me Softly
Show of hands: who here has read a paranormal romance featuring an omega character?
If you’re going to read a shifter series, chances are, you’re reading about the alpha. Then the beta. Or just a plain ole’ I don’t have a rank shifter. Omegas, however, aren’t as common.
When I started writing Accidental Alpha and creating the pack Lex becomes the leader of, the character of Nathan Ross popped into my mind fully formed. I knew he was the omega of the pack—and I knew he wasn’t supposed to be.
Wait…what? Brain, what are you trying to get me into with this? An omega is an omega…right? Apparently not. My brain and muse got together behind my back and created this character for me, and then left me with the challenge of how to make it work.
Okay, Brain. Challenge accepted!
The cool thing about creating books is that there are only so many ways to do it. Some authors create their characters first, then build a plot around them. Some authors do the reverse and plan their plot and then fill out the world with the characters who live in. The third option is a mixture of the two, and that’s the one I generally work from.
Since Nathan wasn’t the main character of Accidental Alpha, I knew I had a little time to build his character as I developed the plot for the first book. The typical omega character is the weakest member of the pack. That worked for Nathan in my books too. He was weak, but I had to figure out why, and how he moved out of the omega stage.
It got me to thinking: we all have weak moments in our life, don’t we? Challenges to overcome, be it illness, or loss of a loved one, or just having a really bad day and needing a friend to cheer you up. What if the same were true for an omega? What if all they really needed was their pack to lend them their strength for a while until they could get strong enough to stand on their own again?
Nathan has quite a few challenges in his past that have made him the wolf he is at the beginning of the series, but just like all of us, being weak doesn’t mean we can’t be strong. It just means we need a little time and help from our friends—our pack—to get there.

About the author
A sassy southern lady, Poppy Dennison developed an obsession with things that go bump in the night in her early years after a barn door flew off its hinges and nearly squashed her. Convinced it was a ghost trying to get her attention, she started looking for other strange and mysterious happenings around her. Not satisfied with what she found, Poppy has traveled to Greece, Malaysia and England to find inspiration for the burly bears and silver foxes that melt her butter. Her love of paranormal continues to flourish nearly thirty years later, and she writes steamy love stories about the very things that used to keep her up all night. If her childhood ghost is lucky, maybe one day she’ll give him his own happily ever after.
