Kenneth Carver had everything growing up except warmth and acceptance. When protecting his family’s name became more than he could bear, he came out as gay, sold his company, and bought a horse ranch.
Andrew Wofford’s last undercover assignment nearly cost him his sanity. Now he has another chance of catching the drug runner who killed one of his informants and then escaped, but gruesome flashbacks threaten his ability to function in the field.
Andy’s latest investigation sends him to Ken’s ranch where he poses as a ranch hand. Ken is a prime suspect, but Andy refuses to believe Ken is guilty, in part because Andy is falling for him. Ken knows Andy isn’t who he seems, but he can’t bring himself to push the man away. When Ken hears rumors that someone is using his land to move drugs out of the city, he worries that it’s Andy. Neither man can trust the other even though that’s exactly what their hearts tell them to do
REVIEW:
I always love having the opportunity to read a book by this author and being a big fan of her “Wild R Farm” series I was excited to read this one as well, as it was also bringing us to a ranch and what I was sure HOT men 🙂
I really liked the introduction to both Ken and Andy and theirs lives. It started out the story very nicely and made me very curious to read more about both men.
It’s very interesting to read how the men connect. You go through a very different range of emotions and there were times when I found myself as a reader almost bordering on disliking one of them, and then going to the opposite where I wanted to hug bothof them close.
I do have some issues with this story. I would be lying if I said I didn’t.
From time to time the build up is very slow and while I can see the reason for that, there were times where I noticed myself wanting to skip parts to move the story along quicker.
To the contrary of that, I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction between Ken and Andy, how they circled each other and how there was a pull and push there always.
When they come together it was bound to be hot and demanding and boy was it all that! I loved the excellent writing and the emotion portrayed by author Silvia Violet.
The plot of the story is very clear. It tells you a story and takes you through different aspects of what is been meant to tell (without giving away something about what happens). I just wished at times that as it was very clear for the reader what was happening that it would have been picked up sooner by either of the two guys.
The ending is ok but it isn’t perfect and it left me feeling as if I was missing out. I think in general that is what gave me the most issues with this book. The built up of the story as mentioned before is very thorough and very enjoyable and given a lot of time and attention where as the end is just there.
As a reader I felt it was just dropped on my lap and that, for me, was the biggest loss to this story. I am glad to have read the ending, let me make that clear, but it could and perhaps even should have been more.
The writing by Miss Violet is as always very enjoyable to read and flows wonderfully.
I hope she will returns us to this ranch and share a new story from there as well as a bit more on Ken and Andy’s.
I mean lets be honest who doesn’t want to read Rusty’s story 😉
