When people don’t believe in you, you have to believe in yourself ~ Pierce Brosnan
Frank Greerson and Gregory have just been discharged from the Union Army in 1865 when A Place to Call Their Own begins. At breakfast with Frank’s family, his father demands that Frank should not go to the unsettled prairie. The men plan to file claims for 160 acres of land each as promised by the U.S. Goverment through the Homestead Act of 1862. The older Greerson uses every excuse he can think of persuade the young men not to go. Frank tries to alleviate his father’s fears by explaining that’s why he’s going West with Gregory for the help. What Frank doesn’t explain is how much he loves Gregory Young.
Frank and Gregory have thought about this for most of their time in while in the Union Army. Since they were thrown together overnight during the Battle of Pea Ridge, Frank and Gregory finish their service in the Union Army as a couple. Using the savings they each have, and Gregory’s inheritance, they plan to go West to Kansas to stake their claims. They battle horse thieves, tornadoes, Indians, and the railroad, all in an attempt to live their lives quietly on the prairie where no one really cares that they are a same sex couple.
When people don’t believe in you, you have to believe in yourself. Frank and Gregory have no one but themselves and they forge forward anyway. Part of my inspiration for their story is some of my husband, Thomas, and I’s similar struggles to establish our own household in the first years we were together. Today we are both gainfully employed in jobs that we both enjoy. My writing career is just beginning and Thomas is starting to be more serious about pursuing a career in the culinary arts. We’ve come a long way together in a short period of time.
Is it possible for two Civil War veterans to find their place in the world on the Kansas Prairie?
When the War Between the States ended in 1865 many Americans emerged from the turmoil energized by their possibilities for the future. Frank Greerson and Gregory Young were no different. After battling southern rebels and preserving the Union, the two men set out to battle the Kansas Prairie and build a life together. Frank yearned for his own farm, away from his family—even at the risk of alienating them. Gregory, an only child, returned home to claim his inheritance to help finance their adventure out west.
Between the difficult work of establishing a farm on the unforgiving Kansas prairie, and the additional obstacles provided by the weather, Native Americans and wild animals, will their love and loyalty be enough to sustain them through the hardships?

You don’t see this era explored too often in m/m…it sounds like a lovely story!
Thanks, it’s one of my favorite times in history!
Thanks for the giveaway! I love finding new to me authors!
Thanks for stopping by!
A Historical, my favorite! And set in a different place and time than I’ve read before.
It’s one of my favorite time periods!
I’ve read stories set in the future, but I don’t think I’ve read any that are historical. Leaving just south of Nashville and Franklin, and west of Murfreesboro TN, I’ve toured many battlefields. This really sounds like a book I’d enjoy. It’s definitely going on my TBR list. Thanks for an opportunity to receive a copy.

I haven’t come across any m/m romances that have taken place in the 1880’s. this should be interesting. Thank you for the giveaway!
Thanks, HB! That is part of the reason I wrote it, not a lot written around that time in the m/m romance category.
