BLURB:
Devon Wilcox, the privileged fifth son of a viscount, has everything a man could want … except being gay in a time when such deviant behavior could land him in prison. He tries to console himself with the denizens of society’s underbelly, but frequently ends up the victim of those who’d rather take advantage of his desperation. Fortunately, his best friend and secret object of infatuation, Sir Wallace Church, comes to his rescue. Wallace tempts him with the promise of high-class entertainment at a mysterious boy brothel called “The Garden.” Situated in the heart of mid-Victorian London, The Garden offers an array of choice morsels, beautiful young men named after flowers. There, Wilcox finds not only the perfect bed partner for the evening, but the chance to gain his most ardent heart’s desire.
REVIEW:
Devon Wilcox is a fifth son of a viscount and he likes men while his best friend, Wallace Church preferred variety. After a night where he got bruised, Church introduced him to the place where he can have what he wants in a discreet way and together they went to this brothel.
What I really like about his book is the a little bit of mystery from the blurb was maintained in the beginning of the book whether who is this someone he found who is not only the perfect bed partner but also his most ardent heart’s desire. But if you had read any other reviews, you might know who it is.
I liked that. I think that is one thing that kept me going and read this book. To guess who this mystery man will be and hoping that what I guessed was the mystery man. Though this book is really about the sex adventure of the main character in the time where such act could land him in prison and at the same it involves emotions from the main character.
I don’t know if I should what I will say next, I just feel like every reader has the right to know, so fair warning, there is a foursome sex engagement in this book. And I admit the sex in hot. Though if you asked if I will read this had I known, the answer is no (I’m such a prude, I know). But I read that whole scene and I can’t deny that is was hot, though not just the scene for me.
I like the length of this book, but it didn’t really incorporate much interaction between the main characters. So the relationship didn’t really have an effect that much on me. But seeing as this is the first book maybe that’s what the author wants to do.
The writing is good. The way it was presented was very accurate in the period of time the book is set. I don’t know if it’s just me, but in some scenes it became too descriptive for me and I got bored a little bit. But other than that, I quite enjoy this book.
