SERIES: Grave Diggers MC #1
AUTHOR: Carol Lynne
PUBLISHER: Stiff Rain Press, LLC
LENGTH: 103 pages
BLURB:
Sam “Solo” Braun lives by one truth, the Grave Diggers Motorcycle Club above all. The creed has served him well, giving him the only real family he’s ever known. He would die for his brothers and them for him, but they don’t know he prefers men over women. Coming out to a group of men who fear no one isn’t high on Solo’s priority list, especially because he’s never indulged in more than one night stands.
Everything changes after one night with Eric James. For the first time, Solo can’t stop thinking about a single night he’d spent with a man. When fate intervenes, Solo comes face to face with his blue-eyed obsession only to find out Eric is a cop. Solo hates cops, and so do his brothers in the club. However, Solo decides to gamble everything and spend more time with Eric under the guise of getting information.
Falling in love with a cop is a very dangerous proposition for a man in Solo’s position, so why can’t he walk away?
REVIEW:
Wait! We don’t get to see the hot sex scene when Solo and Eric meet? That is cold…
Ok, so Solo is a bad ass biker, but he has a secret. Shhh…. Don’t tell the Grave Diggers that he’s gay. He visits a gay bar, sees Eric (or Blue as Solo thinks of him), and wants him. Then has him. This begins a great story between two seemingly different men. Who really aren’t that far apart.
As with most romance novels there are two aspects to the story. The romance between the main characters and the plot that is the conduit that bring them together. In this case it’s the desire to get drug dealers selling meth laced pot to kids off the street. Solo and a brother, Rowdy, are checking out the high school after hearing about some nasty pot, and run down who they think may be selling it. Turns out to be Eric, whom Solo has recently had a one night stand with. Eric admits to being a cop and is hunting the same dealer that Solo is. They agree to work together to find the guy, Solo won’t kill him, he’ll call Eric. Eric will pass on info and use Solo as he can. Oh, they also decide to use each other for sex for the time being. But only where no one can see them. Solo is pretty sure he’ll get killed or at least damaged if it comes out that he’s gay and having sex with a cop.
Then there is the romance. With Solo, initially Eric wasn’t getting much in the way of romance. Hot sex, some insults and attitude, but no romance. Going by the connection building between the two men, Eric is not bothered by this. Both men are lonely, neither have birth families, but both have adopted families. Solo has his fellow Grave Diggers, Eric was befriended by a cop when he was young. Both have tried to create what they needed, but in different ways. Eric has a nice house, something he didn’t have as a child, and desperately wants someone to share it with. Solo took the opposite path, lives alone in a nasty trailer, and limits his contact to his brothers and the occasional one night stand. They are oddly a perfect match. I was surprised by Solo, he really is a good guy, and does have some romance in him when he tries. Which he does, there is a lovely bit involving a bouquet of flowers that was very sweet.
I enjoyed this book, the characters are great and the story was good. My only issue is that the ending felt rushed. There was more to the build up and beginning of the story, then the solution happened very quickly. The same with the relationship between Eric and Solo. It went from being a big deal, with potentially deadly ramifications if it came out, then suddenly they are together and all is good. Big changes for both of them in a very short time, I wish there had been a bit more drama between them. But that is a minor issue, I really did enjoy it quite a bit. There is a set up for the story to continue, I look forward to the next one!
