It’s hard enough being an inn manager, serving at everyone’s beck and call, making sure all the guests are happy and the employees are paid on time. Add to that being a werewolf, a recovering alcoholic, and a pack leader. Add to that a brother who is trying to tear the pack apart and a dark past he can’t escape. Needless to say, Carl is under a lot of stress. Not helping: Justin, the inn’s human massage therapist—who Carl is trying not to fall for—has offered Carl a massage to “lower his stress levels.” As his boss, Carl can’t tell Justin his hands might lower stress levels, but they would raise something else.
Despite Carl trying to put him off, Justin won’t give in. Carl’s friends won’t leave him alone, and the divisions in the pack are near exploding. And it’s tourist season. The last thing Carl needs are wolf wars in the lobby. Like it or not, Carl is going to have to rely on Justin and the wolves who love him to teach him how to let go and get through everything without falling apart.
Review: I was so glad that Silvia Violet made another trip to Pisgah Mountain to spend some time with the wolves that call it home.
Carl is a man who doesn’t know how to relax. He just keeps piling the stress and worry onto himself and is convinced that not only does he not have time for a relationship, he’s not sure he deserves one.
Justin is a human who’s all about making people feel better. He’s become fascinated with Carl and determined to help him relax.
Carl can’t quite believe that what he’s feeling for Justin and what Justin is feeling for him is the same thing.
Complicating matters is Carl’s younger brother who can’t seem to let go of the past enough to let himself be happy so he makes Carl’s life miserable too.
The characters are compelling. They drew me in and made me fall in love with them, although I spent a lot of the book wanting to smack Carl up the back of the head in frustration at his stubbornness.
The feelings grow hot fast, but it worked for me because there was enough sweetness to make it real. And the sex was hot…and I mean smokin! As the relationship grew, it was wonderful to see Carl finally learn to let go and be the wolf he was meant to be. Justin and Carl both had things to learn and they did it together.
I loved revisiting the characters from the first book. Seeing Matt and Shane and how their relationship has developed made me smile, like visiting old friends.
In the end, this story was wonderful and made me smile. I hope that Ms. Violet will head up the mountain once again, as there are still more stories to tell.
