BLURB: When Russ Peterson accepts an invitation to an all-expense-paid vacation at a castle in southern France, he doesn’t expect to learn he has the ability to travel through time. For a historian, it’s a dream come true, offering the chance to find answers to the mysteries of the past. But it’s not without risks—to Russ and to the world as he knows it.
After a few short supervised visits, Russ still hasn’t made up his mind about his newfound abilities. Then, on his first extended trip, he meets Quentus Maximus, second in command to the Legate of Nemausus. While learning firsthand about the realities of life in Roman Gaul, Russ is shocked by his reaction to Quentus’s dominant nature. After a week with Quentus, Russ’s vacation is up, and he realizes he wants a chance to see if their relationship can flourish.
Arranging a year-long sabbatical from work to give time to make the decision is easy. Figuring out if he can live with Quentus’s dominant nature long-term, and finding a way to establish a life for himself in Roman Gaul, is an entirely different matter.
REVIEW:
My one complaint about this book is, that it’s too short! Oh, and I wish that we saw a little more of Quentus’ emotional life – I’m missing a little of the softer side of him. Otherwise? I fell in love with this book instantly! If you’re a Spartacus fan, or something similar, you’ll love this. If you like time travel stories, fantasy and historical books, THIS is the book for you!
The author gives us a well-rounded, well-written story, where the combination of action, romance, sex and drama is perfectly balanced. The emotional climate will suck you in and make you live in the pages, which will be turned so fast they blur in a cartoon like animation! I could not get enough of this – I am left after turning the last page with the feeling that this should go on forever – this, people, is one of the reasons that fanfiction exists! A story so captivating that you just want it to continue!
The characters are well described and you feel their ups and downs, their highs and lows right along with them. You become absorbed completely. The sex is perfectly balanced – sometimes it’s descriptive, and at other times it’s ‘fade to black’ – and sometimes a chapter ends at a fade to black moment, just to give you the details in a flashback, so awesomely done that it flows perfectly into the storyline without becoming disruptive or awkward. The plot and the storyline is well-rounded, without loose ends or red flags – and you leave our lovely couple at just the right time to let your imagination continue without feeling like something is missing.
As you can probably tell, I could have read this forever, and still be happy. It goes straight up on the top five of my favorite M/M romance books, and I bet you, it will stay there for a very long time!
Happy reading!
