SERIES: Kinky Cupid #1
AUTHOR: Kim Dare
PUBLISHER: Riptide Publishing
LENGTH: 95 pages
BLURB:
Experienced dominant Marcus has a stalker. On the plus side, the boy following him around his local leather club is gorgeous and a self-professed submissive. Unfortunately, he’s also inexperienced, bratty, and liable to drive Marcus insane with his incessant chatter and questions.
Bret Daniels fell head over heels with Marcus the moment he first saw him. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to get Marcus’s attention and prove his worth as a submissive. He might not be a traditional sub, but he knows he has a lot to offer a dom who can handle his quirks.
When Marcus gives in and agrees to do a scene with Bret, sparks fly. One scene quickly becomes another, and another. But will it be a case of once a brat, always a brat? Bret intends to prove to Marcus that—expectations and experiences aside—he deserves his master’s collar.
This title is part of the Kinky Cupid universe.
REVIEW:
I love a good BDSM book…. Kim Dare consistently writes some of the best I’ve read. Once a Brat is a good addition to her collection! I especially like new to the scene partners, either a new Dom or a new sub. This wonderful little story brings us Marcus the Dom, and Bret the bratty sub. Marcus is older, bigger, stronger, a stubborn, well established Dom. Brat, uh, I mean BRET is a wet behind the ears, college student, aspiring submissive. He visits the Spread Eagle, a BDSM club, sees Marcus, and decides he is the one to make him the sub he knows he can be. He stalks Marcus, until one night he finally wears him down, and much fun ensues!
Watching Marcus bring Bret along as a sub was wonderful. He is so caring and strong, trying to hide his own growing feelings for the much younger man, even though he knows he wants Bret to be his forever. Bret struggles from the first moment, wanting so badly to be the perfect sub, but he’s just such a smart-arse. Can’t keep his mouth shut for a minute, wiggling and fighting, but he wants it so bad. There are several wonderful moments, when Bret realizes the only thing he needs to do is what Marcus wants him to do. He accepts his surrender, gets in to the moment, and enjoys it. Only to forget that the next time they are together, and has to learn again. He struggles between submitting for his own pleasure, and submitting for the pleasure of his Dom. Once he understands the difference he turns in to an excellent sub. It’s so fun to watch him get there! And that Marcus survives with his control intact is amazing. Bret basically steamrolls his way in to Marcus’ life, bed and heart. Once Marcus accepts that, everything is fine as well.
The banter between them is so funny, I startled my dogs laughing when Bret meets and dismisses Marcus’ fellow Doms, Jack and McCormick. Then again over a conversation between Bret and Marcus in the car. Bret is so focused, he wants Marcus and absolutely nothing will keep him from getting him.
The writing is great, as usual for Kim. Sometimes her books are a bit short, leaving me unsatisfied and wanting more. That was not the case with Once a Brat. This really was just the right length. On a side note, I’m finishing the book and writing this review on Valentine’s Day, which is perfect since the book ends on the same day! The end of the book but the beginning of Marcus and Bret the Brat’s story!

It’s Valentine’s at the Spread Eagle leather club, but the only sub Jack’s even spoken to belongs to his best friend, Marcus—and all Bret did was con him into taking a stupid bet. It is not going to be a good Valentine’s night…
The moment Jack sees Ricky walking naked through the bar, he wants him. When Ricky kneels at his feet and offers him the keys to his restraints, it’s obvious that his interest is returned. It might just be the best Valentine’s Jack’s ever had…
Ricky is sweet, and eager to please, and obviously new to leather. He’s the kind of guy who actually makes Jack wonder if “something at first-sight” might really be possible. But, when it suddenly becomes apparent that everything is not what it seems, the only thing Jack knows for sure is that this Valentine’s night is going to get very, very complicated.
REVIEW:
Another fabulous BDSM story from Kim Dare! I just read Once a Brat, the first in her Kinky Cupid series, this one picks up were the last one ended. Same club, the Spread Eagle, but a different Dom and sub this time. Jack is a friend of Marcus’, he makes a couple of brief appearances in Once a Brat, a bit of conversation, but we don’t get to know him. Ricky is new to us, and to Jack as well. He appears in front of Jack, on Valentine’s Day, and Jack thinks his wishes have come true! Ricky is new to the lifestyle, sweet and innocent, ready to learn. But… All may not be as it appears! I can’t say more without giving the plot away. I’ll just say Ricky has the potential to learn a really bad lesson about trust. Fortunately things work out for him, and he gets exactly what he REALLY needs.
This story worked for me. I love a younger sub/older Dom combination. I love the strength and experience of an older, well established Dom, combined with the innocence and inexperience of a sub new to the scene. I am not into the lifestyle, but I am so intrigued by it, and enjoy watching someone come in to it, and find their place. As a Dom, or a sub, committed relationship, or just as play. 24/7 or part time kink. It’s all good and I love watching the relationship develop, the hard core, stoic Dom, giving in to the lightness of a young, sweet sub. We get that and more with this story. There isn’t a lot of character development here, we don’t get anything of Jack’s background, and only a tiny bit with Ricky. I guess that would be my only complaint. I wanted just a little more depth to both of them. There is a lesson here as well. Don’t commit too soon, don’t take everything at face value, do some research, ask questions, meet people, especially with something that could be so damaging.
Both of these Kinky Cupid stories are very sweet, they do follow a similar pattern. Dom meets boy, insta-love, some kinky sex, and they live happily ever after. Just short, little stories, a bit of drama, a bit of kink, very enjoyable. I like that this one occurs on Valentine’s Day, but it isn’t overly sappy. Sweet but not sappy! I hope we get more from Kim about these boys!
