BLURB: What’s haunting Lee Tyack? He’s moved in with Gideon Frayne, and they’re both loving their new lives. But the shadow is still there – a voice from hell that torments clairvoyant Lee, and which even the pragmatic copper Gideon can hear.
Gideon’s determined to protect his lover. But after a serious injury on duty, Gideon finds out the hard way that he needs protection too. His job’s on the line and he’s scared. Worst of all, he thinks he knows who that voice belongs to – and he can’t stop Lee from heading off to confront this most terrifying ghost from his past.
When the full spring moon rises over Cornwall’s rugged coast, and the veil between the worlds grows thin, Tyack and Frayne must join forces to solve a decades-old mystery that still has the power to tear their world apart.
REVIEW:
Lee and Gideon are back! We first met these lovely men in Once Upon a Haunted Moor. I loved that creepy story so much! Gideon is a country boy, living in a small town in Cornwall. He’s a lonely, sad, police officer, with family issues and a wierd dog. He’s working on a case of a missing girl. In comes Lee, a psychic, brought in to help find the girl. Gideon is baffled by Lee, then attracted to him, then in love with him. It was a wonderful story, but I didn’t realize it was the start to a series. Imagine my surprise when Tinsel Fish came out! Another excellent Lee and Gideon story… They have become closer as a couple, but Lee is being haunted by something, or someone. It was another creepy story, they get tangled up in a mystery, Lee has some very odd things going on, but steady Gideon is there to save the day.
Now we have them back in Don’t Let Go. They are living together in Gideon’s new home, away from his sad family home, and are off on a new adventure. And what an adventure it is! Gideon struggles in this story, he’s still the strong protector as he was in the last ones but he’s been injured and taken a serious blow to his confidence. Lee is on his own more than he should be, and trouble comes, as it seems to do to him. In some ways he steps up when Gideon is down, but in other ways he’s a total mess and let’s Gideon get away with way too much. The relationship growing between them is wonderful to watch.
This story is really about family. Ezekial and Gideon spend a fair amount of time together, reconnecting. Their mom pops in and out as well. They really are trying to get back together as a family. Much to Gideon’s dismay. Lee is the conduit between them at times, smoothing the way. Lee is becoming more accepted by Gideon’s family as well, a bit reluctantly on Ezekial’s part, but progress has been made. Lee’s really odd family is in this one, and we get lots about his history and childhood. We also see the towns as family as well, Gideon’s town shows how much they support him during his injury, especially the Kemp family. They are Isolde’s second family now. Then there is Lee’s childhood town….
Harper is a brilliant writer, her stories are so crisp and clean. I have been known to grumble about short books like this one, but not in the case of these three books. She tells a whole story in a short amount of time. Nothing extra is included that doesn’t add to the story, or tell us something we don’t need to know. Short, sweet, to the point and perfect. Creepy and a little scary, dark in the actions of others, but Gideon and Lee are so light and wonderful. Just enough sex to be interesting, but not enough to make it all about that. I can’t wait to see what is in story for the boys next!
